I haven’t heard Happy Holidays from anyone in my travels this week. Clerks and cashiers and other employees from the convenience store, to the department stores, the supermarket, the state owned and operated liquor store and even the US Post Office, without exception wished me and others a Merry Christmas.
I’ve heard it from a grocery store manager and shot back with “Merry Christmas” and some radio program announcers.

This week I walked into a local Wells Fargo (recently converted from Wachovia) branch and upon completing my transaction I said, “Merry Christmas”. I then winked at the teller and said, “Oh, I am allowed to say Merry Christmas aren’t I?” The teller responded, “Yes you are and I say it anyway no matter what they tell me.” I replied, “I guess your new management is from San Francisco.” She smiled.
