(Reuters) - A direct-mail solicitation for Ron Paul's political and investment newsletters two decades ago warned of a "coming race war in our big cities" and of a "federal-homosexual cover-up" to play down the impact of AIDS.
The eight-page letter, which appears to carry Paul's signature at the end, also warns that the U.S. government's redesign of currency to include different colors - a move aimed at thwarting counterfeiters - actually was part of a plot to allow the government to track Americans using the "new money."
The letter urges readers to subscribe to Paul's newsletters so that he could "tell you how you can save yourself and your family" from an overbearing government.
The letter's details emerge at a time when Paul, now a contender for the Republican nomination for president, is under fire over reports that his newsletters contained racist, anti-homosexual and anti-Israel rants.
Reports of the newsletters' contents have Paul's campaign scrambling to deny that he wrote the inflammatory articles.
Among other things, the articles called the Rev. Martin Luther King Jr. a "world-class philanderer," criticized the U.S. holiday bearing King's name as "Hate Whitey Day," and said that AIDS sufferers "enjoy the attention and pity that comes with being sick."
As Paul made a campaign stop in Manchester, Iowa, on Thursday, his Iowa chairman, Drew Ivers, repeated Paul's assertions that he did not write the articles that resurfaced this week in a report in the Weekly Standard magazine.

Anyone else in the GOP would be politically destroyed by a newsletter like that!
Bam! Correct.

Ron Paul Storms Out Of CNN Interview
http://nation.foxnews.com/ron-paul/2011/12/21/ron-paul-storms-out-cnn-interview
Ron Paul walked out of an interview with CNNs Gloria Borger, following a heated exchange over the controversy regarding racist newsletters sent in his name during the 1990s. Borger asked the Congressman if he had ever read the newsletters. Did you ever object when you read them?
Why dont you go back and look at what i said yesterday on CNN and what Ive said for 20 something years. 22 years ago? I didnt write them, I disavow them, Thats it.
But you made money off them,
I was still practicing medicine, Paul responded. Thats probably why I wasnt a very good publisher, I had to make a living.
**********
“I didn’t write them”
“..... But he did read them, every line of them, off his fax machine at his Clute office before they were published. He would typically sign them at the bottom of the last page giving his okay, and re-fax them to Jean to go to the printer.”

he always says he ‘didn’t write them’... but I don’t think he’s ever been asked whether he approved or signed off on them - and, according to his aide, he did. EVERY TIME.
Mark
Israel responsible for 911. When Borger asked him THAT he took of his mic.
These were comments made in the ‘80’s that he has refuted and haven’t been repeated. I think people have a right to correct themselves and this is just an excuse to bring down the one person that isn’t playing ball with the status quo of two parties that are both taking down our country.
Really, how different will Mitt Romney be from Oblama? The media, the Democrats, the Republican elite, and the corrupt money changers that have ripped off the present and future generations of this country all want Romney to be the opposition to Oblama! Why? Because they are the same.
Newt might be different, but count on it, they will do everything they can to take him out before he can threaten their status quo.
HUMMMM, channeling Charlie Manson?
Michigan's Levin, Stabanowski, sp/and Levin's brother in the house of rep...and Dingleberry for 50 years...then we have the members of the black caucus, not a fully functioning brain amongst any of them...
Ahhhhhh....It has been fun opening all these Ron Paul gifts this week. Every present exposes this crackpots dirty laundry and crazy ideology more and more and more. Then watching his cult members’ attempts at defending him is priceless. Keep ‘em coming folks.
no, the CNN babe asked him if he still thought that the Jews were behind the 1993 WTC bombing, the FIRST one!
Actually, all the reading I’ve done of the Facebook pages of African Americans causes me to wonder if some race war isn’t inevitable. Maybe RP is just doing what RP always does ... calling it like he sees it?
Some constituents really love their kooks. Barney Frank’s district kept him in for some 28 years or abouts. Frank and Paul buddied up this summer to promote legalization of marijuana.
Paul's newsletter described various conspiracies, including a "plot for world government, world money and world central banking." Further, he claimed to have exposed a plan by FEMA to exploit a false national emergency to "suspend the Constitution."
Ron Paul belongs in the nut house.
Aye, and the institution of Congress increasingly resembles and insane asylum.
Yep, here we are, every election cycle that has a candidate that is an independent thinker, they are attacked relentlessly.
I probably would not vote for RP, but he is an integral part of the primary process. The goodness that comes from his campaign is that he helps steer the debate in areas the “Status Quo” would never venture.
The dems and pubs will stop at nothing, spare no expense to make Ron Paul look like a nut. It's happened to every single candidate that marches to the left of left or right of right.
So, we are left with the Bill Clintons, John McCains, George Bushs of the world in which to choose.
Well, it's no damn wonder this nation has moved without hiccup toward a socialistic police state.
It's all about connections, money, power. Evidence? This election cycle will exceed a billion dollars.
Statesmen? What's that?
Like him or not, at the very least, Ron Paul will expose issues no other candidate on either side of the isle has the gonads to touch.
Multicolored currency? Looks more like Canadian money to me, now, but if you have a few bills, the casual but perceptive onlooker can tell what weight class you are in by the colors in your roll...pale on the outside are ones, pink fives, orange tens, green 20s, pink/red 50s and the plain ones in the folded middle are likely 'Benjamins'.
Gays getting 'cred' by getting AIDS?--oh, and lots of attention, too. A few years back there were threads about this on this site, how it was some sort of badge of ubergaydom.
MLK Jr. womanizing? Heh, heh...who'dathunkit?, Really?
I suppose if Ron Paul said the sky was blue, the knee jerk reaction would be to call him an idiot, but that doesn't mean his statements weren't accurate.
If someone says your house is going to fall in, would you spend all your energy saying they are an idiot, or would you use some to check the structure for cracks?
Whether one agrees with his policy stances or not, shooting messengers is a great way to serve yourself up to your enemies-and right now the most threatening ones we face, we face from within.
Those fomenting situations which could well lead to a 'race war' (including the cronies of the current pres__ent) exist. It is but one gambit they have for consolidating unquestioned power.
It is the threat of violence which stopped any further investigation into Obama's past--that certain parties would riot if Obama was proven to be ineligible and removed--so NONE with the power to pursue that have done so, beyond the kabuke of looking at jpegs of alleged documents and pronouncing them genuine (well, genuine enough) to dodge the issue.
Try showing a jpeg of your license next time you get pulled over...LOL!...good luck with that!
Nutter? Or just more Alinsky?
I don't agree with everything he says, (for that matter, there is only one ever whom I would not ever disagree with, and for His troubles, He was crucified-and not just figuratively), but that doesn't mean whoever wrote those things wasn't right.
There is no candidate this year I don't disagree with on some issue, but that does not mean I discard everything anyone says without giving it a reasonable look.
Stopped clocks, and all that. Even the boy who cried "Wolf!" was ultimately right.
By asking the question, they have him in a corner. "Have you quit beating your wife yet?"
No matter how he answers, the question lingers. If he did not blame Israel for 9/11, the only response which is valid is not to play their game.
I'd have walked out, too.
To even deny, gives them the headline that "So-and-so denies blaming Israel for 9/11" which implies there is something to the allegation in the MSM where up is down and everything is twisted around an agenda.
