[Porn requires no commitment, no effort, and no risk.]

I disagree that porn poses no risk and will repeat that it skews one’s desires regarding sex. For a Christian it is also a ‘sin of the mind’, just like greed, envy, lust, hatred, etc.

Remember Jimmy Carter saying he had ‘sinned in his thoughts’?

And - don’t fool yourself about those women never wanting anything more than sex. Most women do want more, even the ‘loose’ types. Even prostitutes usually have a desire to ‘find someone’ and live a happier life.

I’m not a ‘romance novel’ afficiano and find them boring and somewhat silly. I much prefer Mystery novels where the evil doer is caught, lol.

I’m sorry. I meant there is no risk of rejection from the porn star. You are absolutely correct.

Sorry, I should have addressed your second paragraph as well. I meant that the character (not the actress) in the porn movie wants nothing in return, she just wants sex, and lots of it. In any form or fashion. But the point is that she’s not real. And what that does is cause the guy to expect the same from any real-life women .. he expects women to be ready and willing to engage in any kind of sex at any time. And he resents his partner because she’s not behaving like the women he watches in his porn flicks.

My post was explaining the reason men are attracted to porn. They have no commitment to the women, they don’t have any effort and they know they are going to be accepted by their fantasy beauty. The woman in the porn flick never tells him no.

On the other hand, if he tries to approach a woman, even his wife, he must bring something to the table, he must invest time, emotion, work, money in her. He has to try to meet her needs in the encounter, and there is a real risk he will fail to do so. He has to learn to understand her, to meet her emotional needs. He also risks her looking at him and saying no. And if he gets his validation, his sense of self-worth, from his wife (or girlfriend) she owns him.

Stats tell us that two out of three men involved in their church (Protestant or Catholic) have deep issues with pornography. Personally, I think those numbers are low. This thing is kicking our butts, and we aren’t seriously addressing it in our churches.

Have you ever read the Lord Peter Wimsey novels of Dorothy L. Sayers?

Cheers!

...oh, and Merry Christmas.
