Congress Ends 2011 With Record-Low Approval [or Gingrich leads Congress to highest approval]
Gallup ^ | December 19, 2011 | Frank Newport

PRINCETON, NJ -- A new record-low 11% of Americans approve of the job Congress is doing, the lowest single rating in Gallup's history of asking this question since 1974. This earns Congress a 17% yearly average for 2011, the lowest annual congressional approval rating in Gallup history.

This article dogs on Congress and discusses at length the various abysmal approval levels of Congress at various times. It notably fails to comment on the strange and unique era of time when Congressional approval soared into the 50s. That was an era defined by two features:

1. Newt Gingrich becoming speaker of the House in 1994 2. Repubican control of both chambers from 1994-2000

Gallup is unmitigated propaganda for anti-Conservatism.

Congressional approval polls are the most useless things around. Anthony Weiner’s constituents thought it was all the other Representatives that were the problem. Same with those of Rostenkowski, or Frank, and on and on..... Over 90% of them will be re-elected no matter what. Term limits are the great opportunity the Founders missed.

Where do you get your news or just spreading propaganda? Weiner’s district (Queens NY) voted republican for the first time.

The media will continue this subtle dismissal of anything that would benefit Ginrich - even his own record. If this were mitt’s record - we would be hearing about it 24/7.

Wow, what a shocker - everybody hates everyone else’s Congressman, but thinks their own is OK.

Look what it took to get that to happen after 6 wins, and that district was Schumer’s before that. It took Weiner being exposed (!) as an exhibitionist. So, find the propaganda for me, please. I await your non-answer.

There is the rate of reelection for incumbents. Any other questions? Do you dispute it?

You aren’t concerned about truth - just being right - and you aren’t too subtle about it.

You are now spinning to say ‘look what it took to make it happen’. In your original post, you didn’t even imply it happened! I did and then the spin came in. Nurse your ‘I can’t handle being wrong’ wounds somewhere else - you’ll get no salve from me.

I put Weiner and Rostenkowski in my original post for the same reason. Rosty’s seat also went Republican for the first time in generations after his shenanigans got to be too much (a seat later held by another felon, Blago). I was just pointing out how incumbents tend to be reelected over and over, despite how bad they might be for our country. People think their Congressman is fine, but Congress itself is terrible.

I’m not sure what your problem is with me, but “You aren’t concerned about truth” is pretty close to calling me a liar. Looks like you try to pick fights you can’t finish.

I agree how incumbents tend to be reelected over and over, despite how bad they might be for our country. I think too little attention is given to the most important thing citizens can do for their country - getting the right candidate to run - but then you have the mass votes/support - unions who are hell bent on screwing things up.

Looks like you try to pick fights you can’t finish.

Of course you would see things that way - a statement already doctored to 'you win'.

Actually, I didn’t doctor that to “I win”, I just said it as a cheap shot, and for that I apologize. Seeing as how we basically agree, I can’t see any reason for continuing this, so have a very Merry Christmas.

Merry Christmas to you, also, and a healthy and prosperous New Year but, especially, a fantastic November ‘12.
