Gingrich's alleged "baggage" and doubts about his electability don't fully explain why, despite his high standing in the polls, the GOP establishment has been shunning the former Speaker of the House, when not showing outright hostility toward him...
The current Speaker of the House, John Boehner, must be considered a prominent opponent, behind the scenes so far. Boehner, it will be recalled, led the rebellion to remove Gingrich from his post as Speaker back in 1998...
Boehner is hardly alone in fearing a Gingrich presidency. A true insider, Gingrich knows who among his fellow politicians (from his day and since) stands for what -- the real deal not the sort of palaver politicians offer up when they are on their best behavior on TV for the sake of keeping up appearances knowing that it's on the record and that constituents are watching...

Okay, but after watching Boehner cave and cave and cave again on budget deals, and after once liking him, I have yet to discover any principled stance he has ever taken. Boehner doesn’t believe in Conservative principles, or fight for them. He believes in maintaining the status quo.

I think Newt is a constitutionalist - a strong one. He mentions the Constitution and the Founding Fathers in every debate. He has a track record of shaking up congress and reducing the government. Did he accomplish every goal before the insiders conspired to force him out? No, but what Gingrich accomplished was a lot better than the RINOs like Boehner and Haestert who wanted him out.
Bachmann and Paul talk a good game - but what have they accomplished in the House?

Newt orchestrated the take over of the House while Bill Clinton was president and stopped the stuff he planned to do in it’s tracks. What Obama has been doing with a Democratic House and Senate are what clinton was trying to do 15 years ago. Nothing Different. He and Hillary come from the same crowd as Obama, make no mistake about it. Only Clinton ran up against Newt.
The country club rinos in the Republican Party hated Newt from the very beginning. They fought him every step of the way to a balanced budget. They are fighting him now as well. Newt is not the establishment, He never has been. He is the anti-establishment Republican.

I smell desperation on your part. My conservative credentials are solid. Not trying to cause division. Only trying to encourage idealism.
How about pragmatic idealism? In the medical profession, there are different responses to acute and chronic conditions... acutely, Obama must be removed by anyone or anything who can do that. Chronically, the government needs to be set on what I guess people call a constitutional course...
Thank you. I did not get that impression from Newt. I will try to research this a little more as Newt certainly seems to have a larger base than the candidates that I felt had stronger credentials.
I also realize that wanting to return to Constitutional Governance can be interpretted as “fringe or extreme”
Thank you for the objective and civil reply. That has been in short supply today and I now think I was a bit reactionary to the naked hostility and lack of civility on the part of some of the anti Paul crowd.
And you think the country is ready to do that in one change of administration? This country has become slightly left of center to think we can get a totally conservative person elected this time is naïve.
Yes, I certainly see the practical benefits of pragmatism but if the acute and chronic condition is caused by an unhealthy addiction, withrawal pains are a necessary part of recovery.
I am concerned that the anybody but Obama sentiment is only advocating substituting another unhealthy addiction for the original.
I would like to see an aggressive road to recovery because I believe the time is short and the patient near death.
Naivity is better than relevatism in my opinion. One is honest and sincere the other is only relatively better than bad.

He has said he will unveil in October a list of 200 Executive Orders he will sign into law on Inauguration Day, before the obama's plane lands in Chicago. He has also said he will dismantle 40% of obama's bureacracy on Day One, including Dodd-Frank. I consider this an adequate approach to a worsening acute condition.
If he goes wobbly, after 4 years, he can go... He is a fighter, he's done this before, he knows where all the bodies in DC are buried. The DC machine will devour or sabotage the lesser conservative candidates before they know what hit them...

Respectfully, Newt is globalist/Establishment. But, the reason the Establishment is apprehensive is because Newt, by his nature, will not toe the Establishment line. Newt will LEAD the Establishment he will set the agenda.
I have absolutely no fear that Newt will lead the country in a conservative direction starting in 2013- because Newt will want to be an historically great President. And current socio-economic circumstances only allows one path to that greatness- and that's to put the brakes on nanny state socialism and return to “Americanism” and true capitalism.
Reality is that Newt is the right-wing version of Bill Clinton- and giving the devil is due, Clinton was a great politician—who consistently spanked the right. They couldn't beat him.. And the left and the Establishment, won't be able to beat Newt.
It's his path to greatness- and that's what he will do— and that's what the Establishment cannot countenance.
