You know of course that people are not going to politely die in their homes

Yup. Lots of Freepers with Armageddon Fantasies. I think that they believe they'll just barricade themselves in their "compounds" and occasionally use a shotgun to shoo away a few hungry, unprepared Democrats that come calling (preferably between the hours of 8 and 5, Mon-Fri).

Nothing wrong with being ready. But, IMHO, a real, honest-to-goodness SHTF end-of-the-world scenario can't be prepared for, and certainly shouldn't be looked forward to.

I'm prepared for the most likely case (a hurricane or ice storm...no power, H20, etc, for a couple of weeks). To me, it makes the most sense, and I could fit most of what's needed (plus family) in the truck to bug out to safer ground. All of the food and ammo in the world won't do you any good if it's underwater, or buried. :-)

I doubt that anyone is looking forward to it unless his name is Rambo.

You can’t sit back and watch and then wonder why you die of starvation. Yes there will be people who will be willing to face death from your bullets to get your food. Yes there could be gangs who will want what you have. You can prepare for this, you just can’t do it by yourself.

If someone comes for everything you have hopefully you can persuade him to leave. If a gang comes hopefully you can convince them to move to an easier target.

I think I would rather die defending my food supply than from starvation, I would like to be as comfortable as possible until the end.
