With all the political posturing in Congress over the Keystone XL tar-sands oil pipeline, its easy to lose sight of the real issue: This pipeline is dangerous, unnecessary, and would cost the American people far more than we can afford. What were watching unfold in Washington, DC, is more than just a high-stakes political power play its a scam undertaken by Big Oils congressional puppets on the orders of oil companies that have billions of dollars at stake.
The politicians pushing the pipeline are (how can I put this politely?) lying to the American people and pandering for dirty oil money. What do we really stand to gain if this thing is rammed down our throats? Higher gas prices, more air pollution, the threat of poisoned water, and enough carbon pollution to make stopping climate disruption next to impossible but few of the jobs and none of the huge profits that Big Oil would reap.
Exaggerated job numbers play well to public concern about unemployment and the economy, but they are a hollow promise. The numbers from TransCanada the company behind the pipeline have already been discredited as fuzzy math for using tricks like double counting and incidental employment for dancers, choreographers, and speech therapists. Heres some non-fuzzy math: The pipeline would raise gas prices across the Midwest hurting both consumers and businesses. Ironically, the pipeline could actually destroy more jobs than it generates.

Thanks re the tagline. My tagline is heading into its third birthday.
Re the BS detection. It is simple when this question is answered: “When to liberal mediots lie?”
Whenever they open their mouths or write anything.!
Another pipeline won’t change a single thing as far as the environment goes.
I beleive the reason Obama is dragging his feet is:
1. It comforts his fringe supporters and enviro-whackos
2. Keeps the contributions coming in from both sides.
It is a win/win for him
I wonder if the author flies on private jets like most environmentalists.
Hey! MERRY CHRISTMAS TO YOU AND YOUR TROPHY WIFE!!! (and I'll bet that's no BS!!!)
Merry Christmas!
That is not bs nor are my comments about my wife!
Oh! I'm absolutely certain of that!!!
You don't realize, it is not Trans-Canada’s oil.
They don't buy, sell or own oil or natural gas.
They are a pipeline company, they move other people's products, not their own.
They are more comparable to a train company, or a trucking company. They could not export the oil if they wanted to, it isn't theirs.
They move oil/gas etc owned by ConocoPhillips, ExxonMobil and the like.
Thanks for the comment.
Every global international corporation has but one objective - corp. profits at any cost. In my long term view conservatism is not corporatism. USA conservatism is now first about ensuring sovereignty of the USA, the Constitution, and the US people first and sound fiscal policies.
Policy and corporate profits and temp jobs building pipelines etc are no where to be found in the USA Constitution except as the PR message of lobbyists and corporatists. They might as well call the pipeline company Trans World because that’s where their loyalties lie. Politicians always favor the argument that benefits their moneyed benefactors, and not America citizens.
Corporatism version 1950s was about the USA first because US corporations were the USA (not China or Canada) in 1950. In 2011 that is totally different. Corporatism 2011 is about stealing the sovereignty of nations and profiting from it. Forget politics and forget Parties. The corp. agenda is not the citizens agenda. The corps make global profits on the citizens loss.
I like profits and corporations. They have provided me the means to support my family and raise my standard of living.
If you don't like pipelines, try going without gasoline, fuel oil, diesel, natural gas, plastics, etc for a couple months and then let us know how that went for you. And don't use the services of any business that requires those pipeline delivered products either.
