If not Newt, it will be Mitt.

says who?
I like Steyn but I also like Newt. And I can’t get over Steyn’s often-stated blunder that Osama bin Laden died in the cave during the battle of Tora Bora. He’s clever and fun to read but he’s not always right.
I love how conservatives are supposed to compromise everything they believe in to support a candidate who has total contempt for them and would stick it to them if he ever got elected. No one has to vote for Mitt or Gingrich. If you don’t support one, why in the world would you support the other. Mitt being terrible doesn’t make Gingrich any better. This is a guy whose bible tells him the Constitution is obsolete and must be eradicated. Saying you have to vote for Gingrich, because of Romney is like saying you have to hang yourself to prevent yourself from shooting yourself. Choose life.
Now that would be a debate i’d pay to see
Mark Steyn vs Newt Gingrich
Steyn would slice and dice Newt.
And Big Dig Mitt is for a teensy weensy government.
ML/NJ
I would prefer it if Steyn actually proposed an alternative. I know he likes that Bachmann quotes his book, but he is too focused on the Newtster. Perhaps his Canadian side is comiing out, allowing clever snarkiness in pundits, but not so much in actual candidates.
Anyone that doesn't understand what I mean doesn't know Newt very well.
I’ve lost respect for Mark.
Call it counterintuitive, but Gingrich has two things going for him not much appreciated. One is that deep down in Gingrich's compromised self is still the instincts of a revolutionary. ... The other consideration with Gingrich is legacy. ... For all anyone knows, Gingrich's last years could be spent in the presidency. What does Gingrich leave behind him?
It's doubtful that Gingrich the Deep-Down Revolutionary wants to build a bigger, better welfare state. That runs contrary to much of Gingrich's history of challenging the status quo. Gingrich's knowledge of history is that great men don't go along to get along; they often tackle the prevailing wisdom and seek significant departures. More big governmentism would make President Gingrich a one-of-the-crowd guy.
What he misses is just that big ideas big government Teddy Roosevelt side of Gingrich that others have noticed.
If not Newt, it will be Mitt.
That is the biggest crock ever. People are sick of RINOs and won’t chose either Newt, Romney or Perry. Get over it. This is the year of the conservative and it will be when all said and done Bachmann or Santorum.
Steyn’s article was very entertaining, but not at all persuasive. Go Newt!
