U.S. Bio-Security Officials Sound Warning After Scientists Create Deadly New Strain of Bird Flu

The U.S. government is sounding the alarm after reports that Dutch scientists have created a highly-contagious and deadly airborne strain of bird flu that is potentially capable of killing millions, The Independent reported Tuesday.

The U.S. National Science Advisory Board for Biosecurity is currently analyzing how much of the scientists' information should be allowed to be published—given the inherent risks of having the information fall into the hands of terrorists or rogue states.

Gee, egg on face time for FoxNews.

...has been out there since September...At a conference in Malta in September, he described his work as something that was "really, really stupid," but ultimately useful for the development of vaccines.

The first question is WHY would you want to create a more deadly strain of a virus? The second question is can we destroy all the lab samples and notes before it gets out?

One incredibly important aspect of this story has been buried: The US Government funded the work!

“A senior source close to the Biosecurity board, who wished to remain anonymous, told The Independent that the National Institutes of Health, which funded the work, is about to make a decision on how much of the scientific paper on the H5N1 super strain should be published, and how much held back.”

“I can’t help but wonder if it’s possible to create a virus that would key off of a genetic racial trigger...”

Rumours are that both the South Africans and the Israelis have tried to create what you are talking about.

The 3rd question is why this Government paid for it.

All I can think of is the population-reduction “benefits” it would bring.

Don’t you love Marxists and eugenics?

But you can bet that they won’t let it out before they have a vaccination for the elite.

Mine too.

This was about 60% fatal, according to the UK article. IIRC, there was an outbreak of this in Mexico that was initially about 90% fatal. There was actually talk of closing the border at the time. It quickly mutated, thank Goodness. I’ll have to look, that may have been a pig flu.

Remaining alive during a plague makes a pret-ty good Christmas present, I figure.

So here’s a few rules of thumb which apply to ordinary influenza that also generally apply, except where otherwise indicated, to killer H5N1 Avian influenza.

1) Because of its about 2 week incubation period, it hits in waves, but the spreading disease is two larger waves outside of where people start to show symptoms. So when a small town is ground zero for symptoms, it has already spread to a major city and is spreading through the region. By the time it hits a major city, it is nationwide and going international.

Using this idea, you can estimate the start of the epidemic in your area, and initiate precautions against infection.

2) Ideal pulmonary transmission, by coughing and sneezing, happens at 40F with low humidity. Increasing temperature and humidity make it harder to transmit that way, so it is more reliant on surface contamination. It has been determined that during an epidemic, if you use hand sanitizer 6 times a day when out in public, you reduce your chances of infection by over 60%.

However, people have limited resistance to most influenza, but they have none to H5N1, so only a fraction of the amount of virus is needed to cause infection.

3) Ordinary dust masks will not keep out the virus itself, but the virus does not travel by itself, but on droplets of moisture that dust masks will keep out. If you use latex gloves, remember to treat them as contaminated after use, even sanitizing them like washing your hands, as if you were not wearing them. Wear lab glasses to keep moisture droplets out of your eyes as well.

4) Vitamin D (D3) fights viruses in five known ways, so it is essential to keep adequate amounts in your blood during an epidemic. While getting it from sunlight is good, it can take days to get through to your blood, so supplements are essential. A small number of people are sensitive to it, and another small group do not absorb it well, but most people can handle a lot over a long time.

At the first sign of infection of regular influenza, some are now recommending two or three doses of 30,000 IU over three days, before reducing to 10,000 or 5,000 IU as a maintenance dose. It is still far more than the minimum dose, but there is low risk of having too much.

5) During an epidemic, make a conscious effort to avoid public gatherings and crowds. Even avoiding church is a good idea, because in historical plagues, church attendance dropped a lot by the end, because church-goers were dead.

Likewise, as hard as it is, if a family member is infected, they must be segregated from the rest of the family. If a family member needs emergency help or dies, leave it to the professionals.

In the case of H5N1 Avian influenza, all sorts of animals may be infected, so keep dogs and cats inside, lest they eat a dead bird, and if they become infected, it was nice knowing them. Dead birds and animals should be reported to the authorities, not touched or inspected.

6) Following these precautions, most people will have a substantially lower chance for infection, and not being infected in the first place is most of the battle.

This is why we need a self sustaining population on the moon, at least ten thousand with ten million being much better. one suicidal microbiologist who doesn’t want to go by himself or a Ted Turner who wants the population reduced by 98% and we are extinct.
