Precisely my thoughts. I believe she chose not to run for specific reasons, probably family reasons, and I respect that. I hope those reasons will have changed by 2016 (and that she will announce well in advance so we're not wondering), but I'd be startled if they changed by next month.
It’s possible she didn’t think she could break though in the wake of the McGinniss release, Bristol was freaking out after her encounter in the bar, and her gut said no to how things looked then.
The interview with Amy Cramer of the Tea Party Express is very telling. She said she thinks Palin will get i n and only Cain, DeMint and Palin matter for endorsements—yet none of them has endorsed.
“Alas......poor Sarah. She dithers and dithers and then jumps the shark”
It’s hard to really know people’s motivation, but consider the following:
If someone wasn’t driven to seek the job of president because it’s such a cool gig (see Romney) but rather would be willing to do it only if duty called because there was no other viable conservative candidate to take on Obama, we would see them behave very much like Sarah.
The dithering that we saw, I believe was hoping that good candidates would arise. Sarah said so on several occasions but cynical naysayers instead assigned calculating motives to everything she did and said. But virtue exists and some people live by it. That is why the left hates her.
Perry and Cain seemed to be riding high when she announced her decision to not run, they would have served the country well. Now that they’re out of the picture, she is rethinking that decision, not because she wants the job, but
FOR THE GOOD OF THE COUNTRY
Why is the concept of virtue so foreign even to many in the conservative electorate? That Sarah has it and lives it is apparent to me and I would hope, enough other people to matter.
To attribute what she does and says to cynicism and spin I feel is missing all the evidence of virtue in her.
Hopefully, Nutty Little Ron Paul will be drooling on himself in a retirement home come 2016. I’m very tired of his act.
If Obama is re-elected, there won’t BE a 2016.
“If Obama is re-elected, there wont BE a 2016.”

True. Survivors in the Grand Caliphate will be using the Islamic calendar instead.
****on Monday attempted to dangle her name anew****
How does one ‘attempt to dangle’???????????
You either dangle or you don’t.
I believe a well timed effort by the right candidate could work, if the primaries are cloudy. So, I agree with her that it’s not too late.
But the yo-yo-tease-final-decision by Palin has worn itself out with me. I don’t think she’d do much good and likely make things worse.
I have no knowledge, but I study people for a living.
I think being Mr. Sarah Palin was turning into a much tougher gig than it seemed in the beginning. I think the McGinnis trash caused a crisis (after things had been building up for a while) which did not have a short-term resolution.
Maybe, like a lot of things, it doesn't seem like such a big deal now.
I absolutely agree that the launch was on schedule for September, and it was stopped at the last minute.
If her intention was for the good of the country, she would have run or would endorse someone to help unify. Getting in the race will only help fracture it, likely a very nice gift to Romney.
Without getting to far into speculation, I sense you’re obliquely referencing what I’ve long thought.
However it could just be, that the other candidates have ironically, created an effective enough diversion to have let off the stress which (Mr. Palin?) just as most guys in that situation could have found themselves concerned with.
Todd’s Mr. Traditional. Clearly Mrs. Palin’s sudden juggernaut, somewhat divergent from that.
However he may have had some time to come to terms with all of it. I hope so, for our nation. And his family. And his traditions.
It’s not a zero sum. Everyone can win this one. Todd’s pretty much heroic, we all get that.
Let’s start considering how that can be accomplished.
For America. :D
She works for FOX (the unwatchable “Mittens” channel), doesn’t she? They are getting so desperate.
When Palin declined to run a couple of months ago, she lost much of any Big Mo she would have received.
Jumping in now would make it an uphill battle. And until others drop out, they would not lose much support to a ‘late start, upstart’.
Additionally, Palin [or another staunch conservative] jumping in would only dilute the available votes, thus making it even more difficult for any conservative to mount a serious challenge for the nomination.
The current race already has three sort-of conservatives [Bachmann, Perry, Santorum] and the teeter-totter Gingrich. They are basically splitting the same pool of votes.
One [of the many] problems with the 2008 election cycle was too many conservatives being hangers-on and diluting to the voting pool, thus giving McCain and his Independents and cross-overs enough votes to get the nomination.
More conservatives candidates does NOT equal better chances in 2012.
What has changed in Palin’s life that would make her now willing to go the distance on a presidential run? I would like to maintain my respect for Sarah and her leadership such as it was but I am now finding that these types of articles really, really, rub me the wrong way. Being of a practical nature, I rarely revisit past expectations but want to move on and get things done. I believe the adage that a person convinced against their will remains unconvinced still. I do not believe she would make a good candidate because her momentum has come and gone and she would lose in the general. The GOP establishment would see to that as they would rather turn this country over to the traitorous democrat party and their puppet president than support a conservative, tea party candidate. We need to focus on the reality of the present, not hopes on hold from the past or unrealistic expectations of any individual for the future.
Palin mixing it up right now would dilute the effectiveness of the left/rino’s Alinsky tactics.
They can only smear one of ours, at a time.
The more they have to change the one they’re smearing, the less it works. At some point (long past for a lot of us) their constant complaints begin to resemble whining from a 5 year old. And just about as effective.
I say, shake this race up. Everyone will benefit.
Except maybe Romney. :D
Run or not, she would bring the fire back if she did. Right now I see another 4 years of Obama. The excitement that she brought there is gone. The remaining Republicans Candidates are so Blaaaah. Its going to be business as usual in DC after 11/6/12. Maybe Mc Cain will decide to jump in too? LOL.
-——What has changed in Palins life-——
Probably nothing. The piece is an attempt by a writer to be employed and write some words that will enhance a forward career.
Or, if something has changed in Sarah’s life, it came much too late. She is irrelevant in the current race. Nothing short of a bombed out debate stage will make her relevant in the ‘12 campaign
Marked.
The Republican field is underwhelming, to say the least. Once more, conservatives are faced with a “hold your nose and vote” November option. I, for one am sick of it. I am also sick of what will follow after my posting this: “Okay, so what will you do—vote 3rd party or not at all and see their guy get in?” I am sick of it.
What Palin is saying, is what many conservatives are thinking—”Please let someone I can ENTHUSIASTICALLY support jump into this thing. Let someone I trust to be an “outside the beltway conservative AFTER the election get into this thing. In short, let someone who I believe can actually SAVE the country get in there. Mr. and Mrs. Conservative, you know you don’t really see that person yet, do you.
That this was construed as Palin “dangling HER name, I think is reading into things. I think she is really saying, “Sigh! No one there I see right now who gets the juices flowing.”
Remember how blah we all felt about McCain until Sarah got in there? Well, that’s the feeling we’re all waiting to feel right now...AND DON’T!
Or you have some other thought, as you post that.
Perhaps, another candidate you do not wish, to have the competition.
One of those.
Perhaps Palin actually is as smart, as many of us thought she is.
Sun Tzu baby.
