(Excerpt)
Glendening, who has long been a smart growth advocate, said the tension has resulted from the traditional reliance on local decision making and concepts of private property.
"That worked fine for several hundred years," Glendening, who was governor from 1995 to 2003, said.

Who needs stinking concepts like "private property rights"!
Maryland sucks rocks ping.
Looks like NOVA suburbs will continue to grow as people flee the People’s Republic of Maryland.
omally = nobama lite
It was all Roy Chalk's bus fleet could do to get folks to nearby Arlington in under an hour.
Maryland began to become exceedingly repressive in the early to mid 1960s and it hasn't gotten better. Sometimes there are entire decades go by when the only construction there is for housing ~
Maryland's tax and spend policies created Northern Virginia.
Maryland has gone “all-in” on government. We have watched year after year while industries, corporate headquarters, and other types of private business leave the state. Maryland exists as a support community for the federal government and the defense industry dependent upon it. The only planned growth in the last ten years has been from base realignment (BRAC) jobs. So while the government is growing, Maryland is growing. We have been spared most of the downturn of the last few years. Government employees don’t feel the pain, so they continue to vote Democrat. Our two main constituencies are government employees and welfare recipients/retirees.
Meanwhile, the Democrat administration targets anyone who isn’t in those two constituencies. Industries leave. Millionaires leave. Farmers sell out to factory farms.
Maryland will hit the wall as soon as the federal government stops growing, which is hopefully very soon.
Not this one.
The Largest employer in the State of MD is the State of MD. The second largest is the Federal Government. The third is Walmart...
Maryland is by far the California of the East, except we have the Feds propping our economy up. Watch out for O’Malley, this SOB wants to be president and he is well on his way to being a player in the near future.
If I recall correctly, Maryland doesn’t collect income tax on federal government pensions. Adds to the theory of going “all in” on federal government.
Communism is as Communism does. And abolishment of private property rights is a cornerstone of Communism.
I live in Annapolis and read this. Can somebody smarter than me give me the cliff notes on what to expect from this. Sorry I seriously read the article but ti seems confusing to me. This was written purposely to ensure that this does not get traction with the Maryland population. (I think).
Yes private property is such an antiquated concept. We should do away with it immediately.
Can I haz CW2 now?
Next thing you know the states ignored the law.
The Supreme Court ruled they had to go back to the original deal and do it right. This time though the federales and the staes got together in a scheme that exempted only part of a federal or state retirement from the deal. That way the federales and states could continue to tap into most of the retiree tax base as before but a bit more eqitably.
Federal retirees are ahead only when they live some place other than Maryland.
Most of the laws and regulations that curtail our individual freedoms these past 100-years are intentionally written so that the serfs are guaranteed to always be in some degree of unlawfulness without having an inkling of it. Just means that, just as perfected in the Soviet Union during the 20's, the government can remove anyone anytime from existence on a whim.
Sad to say that we have been repeatedly warned, since 1904, that it could happen here in the U.S. and the warnings largely ignored. Most recently the several attempts by Ronald Reagan between 1964 and his last days in office.
Truth be told, it appears that, as has happened so many times in world history, we frogs are not going to survive the pot...
We left Maryland for WV two years ago. Best thing we ever did.
“...give me the cliff notes on what to expect from this. Sorry I seriously read the article but ti seems confusing to me.”
“are intentionally written so that the serfs are guaranteed to always be in some degree of unlawfulness without having an inkling of it”
Welcome to Arbeitsziehungslager.
Partially correct...There is a small deduction, but a large taxable portion.
There never was a nickle too small for a marxist, even at all the local levels of government, to overlook! Consider that PG, Montgomery, Balto city & county are mini-marxist political and cultural havens.
I’m for this. Keep Maryland as forested as possible. There is plenty of urban decay in need of revitalization. The last thing MD needs is to become N Va.
