When I look at my check stub, and I see what is taken out:
16% Income tax;
4% Social Security tax; and
1.5% Medicare tax.

Everyone pretends like these are separate funds.
The FedGuv treats it all the same,
and it is certainly all the same (20%) to me.

Hey, maybe they’ll lower my Income tax 2%
and raise my Social Security Tax 2%.
Somehow, I should feel better about that, right?

That may be, but it makes a world of difference politically. The 'rats created SS, over the years refer to it as your nest egg, sends you letters showing how much you've accumulated, during campaigns calls it things like "locked box", and pummels republicans on it. It's time to call out this "payroll tax cut" for what it is - a 'rat-created disaster designed to fail and go bankrupt so that they could roll out more totalitarian-socialist solutions that helps them retain power.

Those are withholding rates, and you can change the 16% withholding rate for Federal Income Tax by adjusting the exemptions you claim on your W4 form. Has nothing at all to do with the actual income tax rates.
