This just in on NRO:

GOP Sens. Scott Brown (Mass.), Richard Lugar (Ind.) and Dean Heller (Nev.) have each called on the House to pass the Senate bill.

OK. Your points are well taken and very worrisome.

I also understood Boehner to say that by the House defeating the 2-month extension bill, they intend to ask for more spending cuts in negotiating a different bill.

Boehner made his stand after conferring with mostly Tea Party freshmen Representatives. They are still green and don’t understand the wily ways of the opposition. Now, as has been said, the Dems will win political points.

Boehner has basically been had by the Tea Party. It’s not easy being GOP these days.

Boehner is useless. He needs to quit golfing with Obama and retire. Fortunately he comes up for election every two years. When the leadership of the House falls into the hands of Conservatives, America will begin to recover.

Boehner is doing the right thing. It is about time someone stands up to Reid's temporary extensions. He has been doing that for three years.

Extending the taxes for two months is going to create a huge mess for tax preparation. Computers are programed to compute payroll taxes on a quarterly basis. Either businesses will have to compute the taxes by hand or pay for special programing. I don't know how it will affect the government. I'm sure a lot of communications and maybe some special forms maybe necessary. And don't forget about the confusion for tax audits and regular audits.

And all of this because these F'ing A-holes are playing political games with a two month extension. I'm sure the idea is once Reid gets his 2 month extension, he has locked us in to a full year extension on the same terms.

Absolutely correct. A 2 month extension will be an accounting nightmare, as 941s are filed on a quarterly basis.

If you read and understood my post, you should recognize that Boehner is not being had by the Tea Party. It is the other way around. The GOP establishment is still doing business as usual. We have not cut spending, but acutally increased it over the past year. It it time to stop playing games.

Yes -Boehner has been had by both Obama and the Tea Party -

I don’t understand why none of the so-called Conservatives in the Senate are raising the alarm against extending the payroll tax cut -

Do they not understand that once again Obama is laughing at their naivity? Because it is clear to me -

AND as someone else posted, the higher-salaried folks benefit more than the lower salaried workers, so Obama is in effect giving tax cuts to the wealthy, which NONE of the Republicans in DC or candidates for POTUS have mentioned. NONE of them.

Why not use this as an attack on Obama? I guarantee they are now working on a way to claim that the Republicans passed a bill that will help to gut Social Security.

Is Boehner & Co braindead? I guess they are.

The same 2% the Dems want to see eliminated by a Payroll Tax Cut extension is the same 2% that President Bush was crucified for suggesting making available for private investing.

The Payroll Tax Cut extension gives more money to the rich than to the poor, so a Payroll Tax Cut extension is a Tax Cut for the Rich.

A Payroll Tax Cut extension does not help unemployed or retired folks, but a tax added to new mortgages and refis will hurt them.

The Dems are trying to destroy SS, give tax cuts to the rich, and throw unemployed and retired folks into the street, and not one Republican is calling them on it?

If you read and understood my post,

That's a big 'if,' isn't it? Maybe you could try to make your point more understandable. I think my point re the Tea Party congressmen and women is valid. They have something to learn about the process of governing.

Good Lord!

I appreciate what you say. I have grasped this to the extent, as a new retiree who qualifies for Medicare next year, that I see the "little guy" is getting screwed in this administration, with more on the way. I also fear that some of our guys project that they want to do the same thing: Cain with his 9-9-9 and Ryan with his slash-and-burn of SS and Medicare. I keep waiting to hear GOP talk about some serious SPENDING cuts, not just cuts to entitlements, but all I hear are *crickets.* Congress deserves their all-time low rating.

When I look at my check stub, and I see what is taken out:
16% Income tax;
4% Social Security tax; and
1.5% Medicare tax.

Those are withholding rates, and you can change the 16% withholding rate for Federal Income Tax by adjusting the exemptions you claim on your W4 form. Has nothing at all to do with the actual income tax rates.
