Paterno 'knew' about child abuse
AFP – 3 hrs ago

Former Penn State University American football coach Joe Paterno knew his assistant Jerry Sandusky had been seen molesting a child, grand jury testimony said on Friday.

Paterno's testimony was read in court during a preliminary hearing for two senior university officials accused of lying to a grand jury about what they were told of an incident of alleged child sex abuse by Sandusky.

At the conclusion of the hearing, Judge William C. Wenner ruled that prosecutors have enough evidence to send their cases against Penn State team officials Tim Curley and Gary Schultz to a trial.

The two are facing charges they lied about and failed to report the alleged sexual assault. Both had testified before an earlier grand jury that they did not think a crime had been committed.

I will stand up for someone like Joe Paterno any day of the week, your feeble comment notwithstanding.

So this is all about standing up for Joe Pa? By making it sound like the victims were responsible, or perhaps liked it? As you can see, your post was removed, and you will be lucky not to be banned for such a thing. Sheesh.

If ever a program deserved the Death Penalty, it’s Pedophile Penn State.

Just a minor edit there for ya Mr. Gator, no charge.

I’d be careful who’s character for whom you are vouching...he knew and did the bare minimum; bare minimum. I have seen people make more effort returning a lost wallet than what he did upon hearing about the abuse against little boys by Sandusky.

Pedophilia practiced by men against boys is illegal and immoral. Period. With the exception of Afghanistan, men are not allowed to prey on little boys. Period.

When moral, just adults discover this activity, they need to pursue stopping it with ZEAL To ensure it actually stops! Not hard to understand. Paterno did not do that.

You go ahead and stand up for someone like Paterno any day of the week....just don’t expect all of us to agree.

Your comments are scum. Paterno and McQuerry are not men. A real man would have taken care of business first with Sandusky and then followed up taking care of that little boy.

You should be Zotted for those comments.

Predators don’t attack prey they cannot kill. That’s why Sandusky went after ‘lowlifes’ because there was no real adult male in the boys’ life.

Young boys yearn for a role model they can look up to, to guide them and then add to that Sandusky was a virtual god in PA.

Paterno knew as early as 1998 when he told Sandusky he was no longer the heir apparent at PSU. Sandusky was allowed to retire. Why no offers from other schools? Plenty of coaches with far less coaching credentials have gotten D1 gigs. This was the guy who made PennState ‘Linebacker U.’

He disappeared for investigating it to begin with.

I posted around the clock on the Penn State story for about three weeks beginning on November 4th or 5th, starting with the Grand Jury presentment. Personally, I don't think the Penn State case had anything to do with Ray Gricar's disappearance unless he committed suicide.

Consider the timeline. Gricar elected not to prosecute in 2008. He didn't go missing until April 15, 2005. He went missing two weeks after announcing the biggest drug bust in Centre County, PA history. His home computer had a record of internet searches on how to destroy hard drives.

***

Gricar was the Centre County, PA, District Attorney in 1998. In early May 1998, Gricar began an investigation of Sandusky that included the State College (i.e., 'real') Police, the university police, and Pennsylvania's child protection agency.

His decision not to investigate came in 2008 and his famous report came in late April or early May 1999. And Paterno told Sandusky in May 1999 that he would not succeed Paterno.

Gricar didn't go missing until April 15, 2005.

This was the case with the two phone calls between Sandusky and the mother of Victim #6 in the Grand Jury presentment. Why didn't Gricar prosecute?

Remember that Victim #6 is the only victim in the presentment who was not subjected to molestation by Sandusky. Nothing oral, anal, or manual, giving or receiving.

On one of the boy's first nights with Sandusky, Sandusky told the boy they need to take showers. He told the boy he was "going to squeeze his guts out," bear-hugged the boy, and held him under the shower head and shampooed his hair.

The boy's mom noticed his wet hair when the boy got home and she asked him about it. The boy told the mom the story; she called the university police. Investigators were only able to find one other boy ("B.K."), who had also be subjected solely to nude showering. In the phone calls, Sandusky said he didn't know if his genitals had touched the boy during showering, but said he didn't think so.

What was Gricar going to prosecute - particularly against the second most powerful man in the Penn State football program, who at that time had no other claims or charges leveled against him? A boy said Sandusky showered with him? No wonder Gricar didn't bring charges.

However, Gricar's nephew said that Gricar had a sour taste in his mouth for Penn State football for the rest of his life, feeling as if he had been sandbagged.

But nothing connects 1998 with a disappearance seven years later that I can see.

Programs don’t commit crimes, people commit crimes. Jail the bad guys, and leave the program that benefits the students, who have no culpability here, alone.

Programs are placed on probation when a coach turns his head after a booster gives two kids 'new' used cars. A program was given the death penalty when some kids were paid to play with the knowledge of reagents (trustees) and the administration.

In those cases, programs and innocent students were hurt.

But the students are on campus to get degrees, not to watch football.

What Penn State did is worse than any other football program is alleged to have done by so many orders of magnitude that if ever there was justification for banning a program for a decade or more . . . Penn State is the poster child. Worship of the football program and those responsible for it is what created the atmosphere that allowed this grotesquerie to exist and to be covered up. So let's destroy the idol for the benefit of those who worshipped it and lost all sense of human perspective and dignity, not just those who made the Golden Calf.

If a Penn State student's got to have football, let his or her transfer somewhere else, where football isn't so important that dozens and dozens of people were willing to sacrifice young boys so the gladiators could provide entertainment for the crowds.

Go to hell Penn State. All of you Penn Staters who still worship your football over children.

There's cancer of the body; there's also cancer of the soul.

Apparently it's a dual carcinogen if you keep your head in the sand for a couple of decades.

When did I say it only happens at Penn State? There are over 700,000 registered sex offenders (the ones that have been caught) in the U.S. as of June of this year.

I believe it happens in places and by people you would never suspect.

I dont think you would be going too far out on a limb if it seemed that there is more going on here than meets the eye

How about a ring of homosexual pedophiles who found themselves a nice group of like-minded individuals, and who spent the last few decades making sure their groups got major funding and protection

If you ever accuse somebody of being a pedophile based on something not quite clear told to you the next day by some other person and it turns out it was all wrong - maybe the other person was lying, for example - you better be ready to get shot in the face.

To take everything with a grain might be the best advice there is. Or, as a sergeant advised us when I got into the Army, "Believe nothing you hear and just half of what you see."

Sandusky did what he did. He's the guilty party. Or, as far as we know.

McQueary is hard to understand. He apparently wanted to do something but couldn't cope with what he'd seen and didn't follow up as he should have. The latest story is that he didn't witness a sexual act in the shower.

Paterno, Curley, Schultz...seem to have had vague, third-hand information of what happened.

I don't make excuses for anyone but am trying to be realistic.

“Is Paterno being accused of any coverup?”

He faces no charges, but yes, non-legally speaking.

Thanks for the explanation, Scoutmaster.
If Gricar committed suicide, why wouldn’t they have found his body by now?
Sounds more like a homicide to me.

Did Joe Paterno (or anyone else on his staff and administration) ever think about who the boy was that was in the shower with Sandusky? You find out who the boy was and go to him immediately. Abetting homosexual pedophile rape has no defendable position.
So glad you are standing up for JoePa. Now stand up for the kids who were anally raped.
