Paterno 'knew' about child abuse
AFP – 3 hrs ago

Former Penn State University American football coach Joe Paterno knew his assistant Jerry Sandusky had been seen molesting a child, grand jury testimony said on Friday.

Paterno's testimony was read in court during a preliminary hearing for two senior university officials accused of lying to a grand jury about what they were told of an incident of alleged child sex abuse by Sandusky.

At the conclusion of the hearing, Judge William C. Wenner ruled that prosecutors have enough evidence to send their cases against Penn State team officials Tim Curley and Gary Schultz to a trial.

The two are facing charges they lied about and failed to report the alleged sexual assault. Both had testified before an earlier grand jury that they did not think a crime had been committed.

Did anyone see Dateline tonight about the missing Pa. DA and how they now think he might have “disappeared” over his decision not to take down Sandusky.

Is Paterno being accused of any coverup?

More unbelievable..... how can ANY adult possibly be so negligent about these matters?

This was not some vague allegation of “I heard so-and-so may be such-and-such....” and then there has to be a cautious investigation to avoid making unsubstantiated charges without evidence.

There was no POSSIBLE excuse for any of the foot-dragging and inaction which followed.

This was a specific witnessed act between a grown man and a 10 yr old child in his care!!

They all had a moral and legal obligation to protect all those children from Sandusky immediately!!! Not to have meetings over weeks wondering whether to do anything.

What’s wrong with these people at Penn State????

If ever a program deserved the Death Penalty, it’s Penn State.

Programs don’t commit crimes, people commit crimes. Jail the bad guys, and leave the program that benefits the students, who have no culpability here, alone.

Right now, I couldn’t care less about any injustice that may befall the students. It pales in comparison to what happened to those kids.

Getting the death penalty turned out to be the best thing that ever happened to SMU, it has become a very good academic school.

What’s wrong with these people at Penn State????

Penn State football had a $53 million profit last season, based on gross revenues of $72.7 million.

The love of money is the root of all evil.

The same thing that is wrong at a lot of universities these days - the sports program and the dollars it brings in matters more than everything else. Players are coddled while they build drug addictions, people are victimized by players and coaches, all in the name of keeping them on the field/court.

This case has gotten the attention due to the ages of the victims and their relationship to the coach and his charity, but I bet you could find rape victims on every camps in America with a perp connected to a sports program.

Or did he disappear because he WAS going to do something about it?

Getting offed for NOT doing anything doesn’t make much sense.

I have a hypothesis:

Our cultural/political “gay mafia” has so inundated people with propaganda that (especially in a politically correct university setting) people may be

1) afraid to stick their necks out to do anything,

2) demoralized about why pedophiles/pederasts must not be “tolerated” whatever one’s beliefs may be re homosexual behavior between consenting adults.

For comparison, consider if a coach witnessed Sandusky doing the same thing with a 10 yr. old girl in the showers..... I think there is a far higher likelihood that Paterno and the higher Penn State officials would have responded immediately, vigorously, with law enforcement, etc.

Maybe in part because of lingering cultural attitudes protecting girls more than boys, but also because there would not be the same total erosion of standards (yet). i.e., I’m suggesting (speculating) that it would have been intolerable for Joe Pat and other Penn State officials to twiddle their thumbs while Sandusky continued to do this with 10 yr old girls. How could they not be concerned enough about those boys?

This is mere speculation, I emphasize, but how is it that moral and cultural beliefs could be so weak that “men” (I use the term ironically now) like these Penn State officials could be so d——d unconcerned about PROTECTING these children???

He disappeared for investigating it to begin with. It wasn’t his dropping it that got him killed, it was pursuing it to begin with. JoPa needs to be in the criminal part of these charges too

Sorry, but I find that simply incomprehensible. I don't get that kind of logic, if it is even logical, and I doubt I ever will.

Punish the guilty, and not the innocent. It's the American way.

If ever a program deserved the Death Penalty, it’s Penn State.

And possibly their entire coaching staff from the past 35 years

I think you're reading the situation completely wrong. A blind wasn't turned because there was homosexual activity. A blind eye was turned because the publicity might damage a winning collegiate sports cash cow. That wouldn't change if Sandusky was buggering girls, goats or fish.

Well, it is really the love of the pride that is the problem...not the money.

Perhaps, of course I’m sure the program and money played a huge role, but somehow it think the outrage would have been there if it had been a 10 yr old girl involved.

Or not, in either case the moral depravity of people who can countenance that behavior toward children is essentially the same whether it involves boys or girls.

I’m simply struggling to understand how it was even *possible* for such moral blindness to exist.
