Programs don’t commit crimes, people commit crimes. Jail the bad guys, and leave the program that benefits the students, who have no culpability here, alone.
Right now, I couldn’t care less about any injustice that may befall the students. It pales in comparison to what happened to those kids.
Getting the death penalty turned out to be the best thing that ever happened to SMU, it has become a very good academic school.
Programs are placed on probation when a coach turns his head after a booster gives two kids 'new' used cars. A program was given the death penalty when some kids were paid to play with the knowledge of reagents (trustees) and the administration.
In those cases, programs and innocent students were hurt.
But the students are on campus to get degrees, not to watch football.
What Penn State did is worse than any other football program is alleged to have done by so many orders of magnitude that if ever there was justification for banning a program for a decade or more . . . Penn State is the poster child. Worship of the football program and those responsible for it is what created the atmosphere that allowed this grotesquerie to exist and to be covered up. So let's destroy the idol for the benefit of those who worshipped it and lost all sense of human perspective and dignity, not just those who made the Golden Calf.
If a Penn State student's got to have football, let his or her transfer somewhere else, where football isn't so important that dozens and dozens of people were willing to sacrifice young boys so the gladiators could provide entertainment for the crowds.
Go to hell Penn State. All of you Penn Staters who still worship your football over children.
