Casino magnate Sheldon Adelson is planning to direct $20 million to an outside group backing Newt Gingrich’s presidential campaign, multiple sources told POLITICO – the first answer to urgent pleas from allies to the former speaker’s long-time billionaire supporters.
After leaving Congress, Gingrich cultivated a network of a few dozen uber-wealthy backers who poured tens of millions of dollars into a network of groups that helped him maintain a foothold in politics. Now, operatives supporting his presidential campaign are asking those same donors to write fat checks to a suite of new super PACs they hope can spend big on ads to offset Gingrich campaign fundraising that had lagged behind his rivals.

He’s opposed to internet gambling. He claims moral grounds but I’m guessing his true reasons are financial.

Personally I think gambling is for suckers but his opposition to internet gambling is like GE supporting the incandescent light bulb ban.
Its all about that pesky free market competition getting in the way.
Adelson knows that Obama is selling out Israel and that Newt’s positions, as recently underscored by his remarks about the Palestinians, have earned his donation and support.
He has invested billions into casinos and hotels and recently got a green light to invest more billions in a huge Singapore project. If anything, I’d think he’d want internet gambling to STAY illegal.
Hope Gingrich bowls them over in the debate tonight. Speaking of contributions: Just re-reading the book “ The Year of the Rat” and cannot help but wonder how in hell the Clintons and that bunch escaped prosecution for illegal campaign contributions or even treason. Of course, I know about 80% of the contributions were, supposedly, returned to the source. Even so, with the rise of the Chinese economy, missiles and space program we are seeing some of the results of national secrets they traded for campaign contributions and hush money. The Riadys bailed the Clintons out of legal and financial trouble at least four times during the 1990’s. One of the main witnesses, Charlie Tres fled to China.
