This like all of Obama’s other legacies is empty.

As soon as the last troops are out, all hell will break loose, fomented courtesy the Islamic Republic of Iran, which will quickly move in to take over.

the Iraqi leaders know well that to be thankful to the Americans for giving the people of Iraq life again would be the equivalent of signing their own death warrant. Iran, the Muslim Brotherhood, AQ, et al, would put them on their hit list. Arabs are fundamentally ingrates and cowards.

Leon Panetta’s rather empty-sounding homily notwithstanding, one somehow gets the feeling that the Iraqi people don’t really give a rat’s *ss, except to the extent that they’re feeling somewhat impoverished to see Uncle Sugar taking his dollars home with him.

But even as a U.S. military band played a medley of patriotic American tunes, the ceremony -- televised live in the 5 a.m. EST hour -- seemed one-sided without Iraqi participation or even a thank-you. The Iraqis (Muslims) will thank Allah for sending the Infidels to get rid of the more secular Saadam Husein, and give additional thanks to Allah for getting the Infidels off Muslim soil.
Next up - Israel.- Tom

I would like to take this opportunity to thank Leon Panetta for the great job he’s doing as secretary of defense. I would like to thank him.....but I can’t. I can’t watch him on tv. Is he handing out ham in the chow line? Nobody hands out ham with as much panache as Panetta.
“Damnit! I hate it when Panetta hands out the ham. A jackass handing out ham. Where’s PETA when you need them?”

Source refers to Jennifer Griffin article:
Reporters Notebook: Panetta Formally Ends U.S. Military Mission in Iraq
It was a far cry from my previous visits to the region.
During my first trip to Baghdad, Saddam Hussein was still in power and the U.N. weapons inspectors, also known as UNSCOM were being given the run around. I returned again in 2007 just after President George W. Bush announced the surge.
Baghdad was a mess. The drive from the airport was a game of Roulette
[snip]
The ceremony in Baghdad marked the completion of nearly nine years of war. Nearly 4,500 U.S. lives were lost. More than 30,000 U.S. troops were wounded. The death toll for Iraqis reached 100,000.
~~~~~~~~~~
The cost to the U.S. -- more than $800 billion.
Soon the Iraqis will be throwing shoes at the last of the departing troops followed by providing Iran with support and access to stage an attack on Israel IMO.
Truth be told, the Iraqis probably helped Iran down our drone. They hate us when we are there and they hate each other when we’re gone.
Remember the bullcrap. ‘being welcomed with flowers’, ‘oil is going to pay to it’, ‘mushroom clouds were about to appear’, ‘everyone knew they had WMD’, ‘it was doable’. It had all the trappings of today’s Iran stampede.
At least there are no photos of people hanging off helicoptersThat will come later.
We celebrated the end of the Vietnam War in January 1973, and left in the helicopters in April of 1975.
That’s already been going on for 3 years.
Big Media abandoned their almighty American casualty count and report American military dead as “NATO soldiers”.
