Gingrich Running Strong With Traditionally Reliable Voters

Older Republicans and core GOP identifiers show solid preference for Gingrich by Lydia Saad PRINCETON, NJ -- Newt Gingrich's current lead in Republican preferences for the GOP presidential nomination is largely due to particularly high support from the types of Republicans who might be expected to turn out heavily in the upcoming primaries -- older Republicans and core identifiers with the Republican Party. Roughly 40% of Republicans aged 55 and older as well as core Republicans (as opposed to independents who lean Republican) and conservatives currently favor Gingrich for the nomination. This contrasts with 21% to 23% of each group backing Mitt Romney.

Looks like the base is definitely at odds with the establishment elite.

Bull 40 from 100 is 60, the majority of the base wants someone else. That is what the polls show. And the polls show that 40 to 60 percent of that 40 percent can change their minds. No one has a lock on anything.

What the Hell is up with National Review today?

Who told them they could pick the nominee for us?

I mistakenly put my handle as “Author” instead of the correct author of the article, Lydia Saad.

I don’t post very often, and it shows.

Would you kindly correct this?

Thank you.

Good news. The establishment will not pick the nominee this time.

I’m sure it is totally based on sincere findings and not on the time-honored “I’m supporting someone else, so that means this guy cannot possibly win” method of picking a candidate.

Well, I can guarantee that THIS 63 year old (good looking) ) happily married white male is locked on to supporting Newt in this nomination.

Unlike many on FR, I’m not willing to take part in giving this nomination to Romney.

Here’s what annoys me.

If it’s true that only Romney is electable this time (humor me, I don’t buy it either, yet)...then one or more of the following is true:

1. The GOP cannot appeal with a conservative candidate ever again with the demographics of the nation

2. The GOP simply doesn’t have any conservatives capable of presenting themselves well (or any ready to run for President yet)

3. Obama is just wonderful and most people like him

He needs to take the gloves off.

Like it or not, constant negative advertising can take its toll, and he needs to attack back.

“Running a positive campaign” isn't going to combat bullcrap charges from the moneybags in the race.

I hope and pray for the same.

I expect this debate will be the highest stress debate that Newt will ever be faced with, but I firmly believe that Newt can handle it.

Faux-Romney-News will be playing as dirty as possible, with the full and unmistakable intent of killing Newt, kinda like the Newt haters on FR. They will also try to help Paul-nutbar in hopes of stopping Newts momentum.

I expect tonights circus act to get very bloody and even with Newt coming out the clear winner, Faux-Romney-News will do their level best to paint him as the loser and announce his political death.

GO NEWT GO............

With a field of either nonstarters (Romney, Paul) or piss-poor flawed candidates (Perry, Bachman, Santorum) I am leaning toward voting for NEwt as the best of a horribly bad lot of flotsam.

I would still vote for all the others, except Romney & Paul, in November if it came down to it though. Just cannot bring myself to put Romney in the close my eyes, hold my nose and pull the lever category with them though.

He has to talk about the brutally negative ads and the toll the ads have taken.

He also has to remain cheerful -— the happy warrior.

He can pull it off, because he believes it’s the best avenue.

Romney and Paul are evil.

I have a feeling Wallace and Faux are planning to go after Newt to try to rattle him, but I’m sure Newt knows it.

NewT under pressure, is something to behold. That we know for sure. I hope Newt rips Romney a new Black Hole from which not even light can escape!

I think he will........(snicker)

We are on the very same page in our thinking! Faux questioners had better try really hard to hide their contempt!

I think the questioners are going to be Wallace and Meghn Kelly for sure and possibly one other.

I don’t think either one likes Newt and Wallace wants Romney on his Sunday show, so he will go easy on Romney.

LOL. I hope he rips Wallace and Kelly too, if and when they merit it and I suspect they might.

Loaded questions, meant for Newt to explode.

I’m sure he’s prepared.

I’m praying for him.

Yep
Going negative works and there is nothing wrong about it as long as it is true

Newt doesn’t have the $$$ to do it
