Rick Perry rebound in Iowa: Assisted by veterans?
Polls show Rick Perry gaining ground and Newt Gingrich weakening in Iowa. Why Rick Perry may be picking up the vet vote.
By Liz Marlantes, DCDecoder / December 14, 2011
Lots of news stories today about how the race to win Iowa is still wide open. The New York Times Nate Silver takes a whirl through the polling data and says any of five candidates could plausibly win. And Politicos Maggie Haberman reports that internal poll numbers from the Mitt Romney and Rick Perry camps show Newt Gingrichs lead in Iowa is indeed slipping.
Interestingly, she also quotes a veteran GOP caucus-watcher as saying:
Watch Rick Perry. Hes going for a top three finish, and that could be to Romneys expense.
Weve found ourselves wondering about Perry, whos kicking off a 42-city Iowa bus tour today. Notably, two recent Iowa polls have shown a slight uptick in Perrys support. In particular, an American Research Group (ARG) poll released yesterday (Tuesday) showed him gaining 8 points...
...And despite some intense Internet mockery, Perrys Strong ad - where he criticizes the fact that gay soldiers can serve openly in the military while children cant celebrate Christmas in school - may be generating some traction in the state.
In particular, Decoder is now wondering if the ads appeal was actually two-fold - going beyond Christian conservatives to another potentially powerful voting bloc: veterans...

That's right and he gave him his plan to secure the border which Obama ignored. Looked him in the eye and told him what needed to be done.

Maybe this is a good strategy short term but Perry is no Reagan.Maybe? Heck, having the support of veterans is always a good thing.
As for Perry being no Reagan, well of course.
Only Reagan could do Reagan, and he did it damn good!

That’s OK, it’s worth posting twice! The contrast between the two is stunning. It’s obvious who the determined leader is, and it’s obvious who the posing phony is.

Thank you. I’m replying to both of you because the ‘we wish you a Perry Christmas’ was SmoothSailing’s idea and I swiped it, lol. Too good not to use!

IMO, Perry can’t beat obama. He comes across as the dumbest hayseed hick in the world. So maybe he is not dumb, but he looks and sounds dumb. I cringe every time he smiles. sorry, no way he could stand up to slick in a debate. If he is leading in the primary I will have to write in Palin.

I respectfully disagree. Rick Perry will crush Zero. TexMom7 posted a long list of issues that Rick would beat Obama on. No contest.

Thanks devolve. I made 4 or 5 and just keep posting the same ones, this one is the best I think. I'm seeing many more people ‘for’ Perry when I read on other sites now. He's very good speaking to people in groups and they find him likable.
I wish I had a better memory of the debates between Obama and Hillary, just can't recall much about them!
