[ See Video]After expressing "WOWs" by WSJ hosts on numbers decline, the male WSJ host asks how significant the drop in fertility rate is in effecting the plunge. Miriam Jordan explains the drop in fertility rate is significant as poor families feel less economic pressure to earn more money, in order to support their families, as they have fewer mouths to feed.

Asked by female WSJ host if what is happening here in the US -in terms of state laws are effecting immigration, Supreme Court hearing of Arizona immigration law, etc. are effecting the numbers [co-host states 10 secs left]. WSJ Senior Correspondent LA, Miriam Jordan, quickly responds anti-immigrant laws ARE deterring some would be migrants from coming .."they feel unwelcome here", she says.

[Note: Government Figures released: The "Arrests" of migrants are main gage to determine numbers in showing record drop for 4 decades in number of migrants apprehended.]

Dumbing down the language, they are not migrants, they are illegals, sneaking into the country illegally.

There is no work for them here either. Maybe that’s Obama’s ‘seal the borders’ plan /snicker

Hmmm... if we just quit arresting them then logically the number of arrests could plunge to zero... which is meaningless to the number actually coming across. How many are being arrested and how many are NOT being arrested. Those are the important numbers.

More smoke and mirrors. Under Obama’s new rules, people apprehended at the border and returned immediately to Mexico are not counted. The WSJ and other illegal alien enablers want to downplay the number to minimize the problem and provide an amnesty.

Exactly. My hunch is that they’re not being arrested because Law Enforcement has been directed to ignore them.

I agree and I believe there was an article about that a few days ago.

Also omitted was the obvious Danger in crossing "having a sizable impact on keeping Mexicans and Central Americans – and others – home".

"While immigrant rights advocates argue that border fences, ever higher and more technologically advanced, do not deter illegal immigration – they just make it more dangerous – it does appear that the threat of kidnappings, forced recruitment, and mass murder at the hands of drug traffickers is keeping migrants home. Instead they will stay home, depend on remittances from those relatives already in the US, and try to get day work on nearby farm."csmonitor

Apprehensions of illegal aliens at the border are way down…why?

The reason for the drop in arrests is the fact that border patrol agents are afraid of being brought to trial if they arrest illegals. Think not? Think again. There have been at least 3, maybe more, agents arrested for “being to violent” to our poor illegals. Would you want to do your job if you faced arrest and conviction for doing it?

Justice Dept. Sues Arizona Sheriff in Civil Rights Probe

The U.S. Justice Department sued Sheriff Joe Arpaio on Thursday, saying the Arizona lawman refused for more than a year to turn over records in an investigation into allegations his department discriminates against Hispanics.

The lawsuit calls Arpaio and his office’s defiance “unprecedented,” and said the federal government has been trying since March 2009 to get officials to comply with its probe of alleged discrimination, unconstitutional searches and seizures, and having English-only policies in his jails that discriminate against people with limited English skills.

Arpaio had been given until Aug. 17 to hand over documents it first asked for 15 months ago.

More undermining of English on your part. There is no such thing as an illegal. There are felons. There are criminals. There are illegal immigrants. So technically in English they are more immigrants, though illegal immigrants, than they are the slang “illegals.”

“State laws deterring migrants, feel unwelcome here”

B.S.! It’s Obama! He’s been rounding ‘em up by the millions, billions even! He’s a beast when it comes to stopping the invasion of illegals.

(needless to say, sarc alert.)

Excellent article, thanks for Tucsoncitizen

...cartels are perched on mountain tops in Arizona guiding loads of drugs and illegal aliens through the Border Patrol deployment….and precious little is being done to knock the spotters off those mountain tops and keep them off them.

Hence their reduction of “catches” is not a result of BP effectiveness…but more a result of the higher sophistication of the smuggling system...aka described as the bad guys are building a better mousetrap.

The eye before a dangerous storm is misleading.

• Why doesn’t Obama know this?

http://www.wnd.com/index.php?fa=PAGE.view&pageId=374249
Taylor was speaking to citizens at an event sponsored by the Cochise County Republican Committee in Arizona, and he leveled with them.

He says agents are denied the right to do their jobs because they are denied access to much federal land in their efforts to track illegal aliens and drug traffickers.
His main concern is the increased criminal element among illegals, making the situation not only dangerous for the BP but also for American citizens living and working in the state.

According to a report on his presentation in the Arizona Range News, in 1952 the Border Patrol was granted unlimited access to all private and state lands up to 100 miles inland from the border. This enabled law enforcement to deal with direct border issues and track illegals as they traveled inland through the thousands of acres of federal and private land.

But now, Taylor says, that’s changed and much of that land is off limits to the Border Patrol. But drug cartels aren’t stupid. They don’t have those restrictions, which gives them free access to U.S. land for transit and observation posts to track Border Patrol activity, situations confirmed to me by county sheriffs.

Everything this government says or does is either part of some political game or an outright lie. Usually, the latter.

They are not being arrested because the Obama Administration has a policy of letting illegals break the law whenever they want. Drug dealers and other criminals still control border areas. Thefts and violence in border areas are actually increasing. Drug trafficking is increasing too. The Obama Administration is helping the drug gangs and giving them guns. They are also letting them commit crimes along the border with no consequences.

This is a stupid article.
