Ya know, your tagline got me thinking. If Newt is indeed the nominee, I think his chance of beating Obama is far better than conventional wisdom. Even my wife is skeptical, but if he pulls it off, it will be very much like Nixon in ‘68 (although I maintain that all elections are very different and never bear more than a passing resemblance to any previous one). Nobody “liked” Nixon per se, but when they looked at him, realized that he might be just the rotten guy for the rotten times we live in to get things done.
Let’s just hope there isn’t a Watergate in Newt’s future if it happens!

Everybody said Reagan was the same way. He couldn't be elected the nominee and he'd never beat an incumbent Carter. He crushed his opponent in the GOP and buried Carter under a landslide of Biblical proportions. This is the thing that the liberals and their lackeys in the MSM hate: The fact is that conservatism when it runs AS exactly that, always resonates with the electorate in comparison to liberal realities and it usually wins political victories. So the left tries to pad it's side by trying to convince the RIGHT and the American electorate who are kept deliberately ignorant of the entire process and political acumen by their slaves in education that the only way to win is to elect a left of center "conservative." We fall for it every time, too. I'm backing Newt but I'd much rather have Bachmann. The best combo now would be for Newt to build a truly conservative administration by making either Cain, Bachmann or Santorum his veep. But Michelle is shooting herself in the foot, politically, by taking too many shots at Newt. Santorum would be a great pick. He's young enough to take over in 8 yrs. If Bachmann had a chance more than a snowball in a hot place, I'd be in her corner.

>>[Erin] Burnett [CNN]: There’s a conventional wisdom, though, that Newt Gingrich will cut his own legs off at some point, and that while he may sweep through the primary season, Mitt Romney’s the guy you have that’s actually electable versus Barack Obama.
Does that speak volumes about the MSM’s “vision” for the GOP candidate, or what??!?
They want us to have Myth Romney SO BAD.

There is something to be said about having some age and wisdom back in the white house. At 79, the history professor will have some valuable skills for the Presidency. Newt wasn’t my first or even second choice, but he is now in my top 3, and is far ahead of the other 2 in the polls.

Where did this stupid notion come from that Newt is undisciplined? From when he was banging that hill staffer during Klinton’s impeachment? Or is this just Beltway nonsense?
To: RockinRight
If Newt is indeed the nominee, I think his chance of beating Obama is far better than conventional wisdomThe debates will be significant. Newt will not let either the moderator or Barry off the hook. Obama will look like the unqualified asshat that he is.

I’ve said it here numerous times. I don’t like Newt. Newt is not trustworthy and will backstab us given the opportunity. However, there are times a people find themselves in such dire straights with so many problems that only a real bastard can pull their fat out of the fire. I submit to you that Newt Gingrich is that bastard.

Newt may be a rotten guy, but he's our rotten guy!! Newt you magnificent bastard!!
You know, I have some disagreements with Newt on policy issues. However, I do want to say something about his personal life. People keep pounding away at the fact that he's been married three times and cheated on past wives. At least he's admitted it, apoligized for it and said he was wrong. Yet, many on our side want to toss him over the side for it. Compare it to Clinton. The left defended him endlessley. He's probably cheating on his wife as I post this. He never admits it and has never apologized. We have a lot of our coalition made up of religious conservatives. Aren't we supposed to be a forgiving people? Newt has said he's sorry. Shouldn't we accept his apology and move on and defend and support him from the social aspect of it?

Remember, Reagan had been, (Gasp!) divorced and remarried.

I think if Mr. Cheney says don’t underestimate someone, I’d not want to underestimate that person.

Newt is a smart man, I doubt if he will screw up. If he can overcome the “baggage” situation he will be elected. We could do worse that Newt.

What is driving Newt to the top is his lack of political-wimpy-talk
He gets up on stage and blasts Obama and that alone has propelled him to the top. You would think the other candidates would get a clue.
I used to love Bachman but if I hear her say “I will Fight For You” one more time I am going to lose it.
HINT: Michelle- which of your opponents WON’T promise to “fight for me?” - geez I think even Obama says he will “fight for me” - only it is more funny when he says it.
I HATE WHEN POLITICIANS TALK IN PLATITUDES

I disagree with some of Newt’s positions and do consider him a most disagreeable sort, but the current times might just need his type of personality. Someone who is not going to be consilliatory and reach across the aisle, and more importantly someone who will be willing to look the American people in the eye and tell them that what needs to be done will not be pleasant and they will not want it done but he is going to do it anyway as it is what MUST be done.

Romney is worse than Newt.
A lame duck Obama could be the worst thing this nation has ever seen.
