Mitt Romney’s New Hampshire Nightmare
Time ^ | December 13, 2011 | Michael Crowley

There are growing signs that the Republican primary campaign might be a long and muddy slog, a slow grind to accumulate delegates that doesn’t produce a nominee until spring or even summer; a contest more in the World War I style of Obama v. Clinton 2008 than the D-Day landing of George W. Bush 2000. But there’s also a scenario in which, one month from now, Mitt Romney suffers a blow so damaging that he might never recover: defeat in New Hampshire. For much of this year, Mitt Romney’s status as default front-runner in the Republican nomination fight rested in large measure on the assumption that he was a shoo-in to win the New Hampshire primary. Romney appeared to have everything going for him in the Granite State. He’d spent four years as governor of neighboring Massachusetts. He’d bought a lakefront house in the town of Wolfeboro, where he spent several months a year—effectively becoming a part-time state resident. He spent the bulk of 2011 mostly ignoring Iowa and focusing time and resources to the east. The polls painted a picture of total dominance: Romney has placed first in every New Hampshire survey cataloged by Real Clear Politics dating back to April.

Suddenly, however, New Hampshire is starting to look less like a Romney firewall and more like a burial ground. Several recent polls show Newt Gingrich, who a couple of months ago was running 30 or more points behind Romney, within 10 to 17 points of the New Hampshire leader. Newt has obvious momentum while Romney has sunk a few points from his October and November highs. Could Romney be on track to a disastrous New Hampshire defeat?

It’s possible. Flash back four years

They just can’t figure it out, can they?
Republicans are TIRED of all the RINOS.
Period.
Ford, Nixon, Anderson, Dole, Bush I, Bush II, McCain—and now Romney of course.

After all, the last time we ran an ACTUAL CONSERVATIVE, he got forty-nine of all them fifty-seven states!

Haaa... way to many massholes in all of NH, no way Milt Scumey will lose NH. the GOP elite and the John Sununu machine have effectively won the war with the TEA Party in NH. Absolutetly no way any other candidate will be annoited in NH. If you are a conservative canidate, do not waste a penny or a nano-second of your time in NH.

I have been in NH for years until recently, now part time and have an insiders view of the NH GOP, RINO central, from county party seats to Concord, the Sununu rino machine is endemic and entrenched. Conservatives are and have been purged since they acted up in 2010 and did not vote in John Stephens the Sununu chosen one for Govenor.

Why is a open primary which allows radical left wing Dems to vote in the GOP primary still allowed in this day and age of A Soros -Union-Daily machine controlled voter fraud Dem party.
This open primary is a waste of Time and money and reflects nothing but a far left Dem party picking our candidate .

Isn't Su-No-No in a semi panic mode? He has been all over the radio and TV trashing Newt. Is he worried his role as King Maker in NH in jeopardy?

A close victory in NH, sandwiched between dramatic defeats in Iowa, SC and FL will do Mitt in. Not that I’ll be voting for either of the front runners. But I would rather a magic 8 ball be president than Flip McRomney.

It is even more personal to the Su NO NO family enterprise and keeping John Jr elligible/relevenant for another Senate seat or Chris who is on the Executive Council on a political level and on a crony capitalism level making sure his “Family” has power to get on Corporate Boards, think tanks etc to keep real dollars of income flowing to the Su No No family with out actually having to work in yucky corporate america and earn it. Getting voted in is way easier...

Unfortunately Milt will win decisively in NH. Elsewhere he will get pounded, but NH will give him a solid win at this point

As I understand it, the GOP has done away with "winner-take-all" primaries. The delegates will be apportioned according to percentage of vote.

So even if Mitt wins the NH primary, it is possible for him to come out of NH behind overall in delegates should Newt (or some other candidate) win Iowa decisively and place 2nd in NH. Should that be the case, Mitt will not have a lot of momentum.

The gap has closed considerably and look for more to jump ship if he finishes a distant 3rd or 4th in Iowa.

Agreed, just we will have to endure the piss stream media touting a Myth NH win for a few days and the Sununu BS till the primary in Nh. Been through worse things in life, best part will be asking John Sununu if he wants to take John Stephens and Mitt golfing since he loves to work with “winners” or listening to him and Judas Gregg explain away way Myth did not win. Hilarity will be the order of the day...

I have a feeling the MSM and Faux News are going to do a full-court press on Gingrich to try and save Romney.
