This was a Man Show skit back in 1999 - 2000. It was hilarious. They went around getting signatures to “end the suffraging of women.”

Any system that disenfranchises anyone on public assistance.

Did you ever stop to think that maybe the people that frequent that store DO know what suffrage means?
Could this be a case of expressing what they really think?
Could it be they do not think the 19th Amendment was that great an idea? Especially after seeing some of what the 19th has given us in Washington. A certain Speaker of the House comes to mind.

He is unfortunately correct.
Government welfare programs sprang forth because politicians began pandering for the womens’ vote. WOmen who had private charities and such doing good things and helping as private citizens - as charity was supposed to be - then started voting for shlup politicians who said ‘government can do it better’. Vicious cycle ensues til present day.

There are always exceptions to the rule.
Generalities are generalities because generally, that’s the way things are. IN this case be happy you aren’t and realize the generality holds true, you are the exception to the rule.
And nobody was picking on you personally, that’s your problem, you took it personal. Saying something is generally ‘x’ and you’re ‘y’, is not picking on you because you’re ‘y’. You’re an exception. But you’re not the norm. The norm still holds as what the typical/expected thing is for a given situation.

Not new. I seem to recall the Man Show tried this stunt some time ago. They also got plenty of signers too.

I am of the thought of Robert Heinlein in “Starship Troopers”. Only veterans should have the right to vote.

I’m talking about the general idea here, not particularly in the US. Without Women’s suffrage, we’ll not see Margaret Thatcher. Or, Sarah Palin for that matter.

Phi Beta Kappa's mag just had a little article about how FDR was one of 17 presidents who'd earned Phi Beta Kappa membership, but how only one First Lady was a member. Eleanor Roosevelt was granted honorary membership by the Radcliffe chapter! That really makes her special. Next thing you know Columbia will be granting it to Obama to go with his Peace Prize. By such standards we could just declare Sarah an honorary dude and elect her anyway. After all she packs a bigger pair than any of the current contestants and would otherwise be eligible, unlike the current unnatural claimant.

Well I suppose I will never say that women should not be allowed to vote. After all, my own wife is a conservative and usually votes with me.
However, I think it is fair to say that my wife is that exception to the rule and that the vast majority of women are conditioned from birth to expect to be taken care of - either by a man or by the government.
I know many women here on the Free Republic will take exception to that but they need to realize that women Freepers are exceptions to the rule and that our nation would be far better off if women did not have the vote as most men are conditioned from birth to take care of themselves and their family without assistance and would therefore be more inclined to vote for a limited government and a virtually non-existent welfare state.
However, I realize I'm whistling past the graveyard here as there is virtually zero chance that women's suffrage will ever be rolled back. So instead, we must focus on raising our young girls a little differently than we have been. I think we can all agree that raising women to be "daddy's little girl" has been a big mistake.

IMHO, the biggest constitutional errors ever were the 16th, 17th, and 19th amendments.
