Gingrich opens up big leads in South Carolina and Florida [NBC/Marist poll - TEA PARTY POWER]
MSNBC ^ | Dec 11, 2012 | By NBC's Mark Murray

Posted on 12/11/2011 12:02:07 PM PST by Jim Robinson

"In a new NBC/Marist poll, Newt Gingrich has surged into the lead in Iowa, but Mitt Romney's big lead in New Hampshire remains. NBC's Mike Viqueira and David Gregory report."

Newt Gingrich’s surge in the polls isn’t limited to just the early presidential-nominating contest of Iowa. According to new NBC News-Marist polls, the former House speaker has now opened up commanding leads in South Carolina and Florida -- two states that historically have played important roles in deciding the eventual Republican nominee.

Fueled by the support from conservatives and the Tea Party, Gingrich is ahead of former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney by nearly 20 points in South Carolina. The winner of that state's primary has gone on to capture each GOP nomination since 1980.

And he leads Romney by double digits in Florida, whose primary ultimately ended up deciding the party’s pick in 2008.

“You can see why the Romney people are getting a little itchy,” said Lee Miringoff, the director of Marist College’s Institute for Public Opinion, referring to the Romney campaign’s recent attacks on Gingrich. Gingrich ahead “any way you slice it”

Tea Party power

According to the two polls, Gingrich performs especially well among the most conservative primary voters.

Among Tea Party supporters -- who make up about half of all likely primary voters in South Carolina and Florida -- the former House speaker leads Romney by more than 30 percentage points in both states (51-20 percent in South Carolina and 57-22 percent in Florida).

Gingrich also enjoys huge leads among “conservative” and “very conservative” voters.

Freddie Mac executives clearly hired him to speak positively about the company and its business model and to identify political friends on Capitol Hill who would help the firm.

Gingrich did his part by banking the fees before the company collapsed and hasn’t returned it as he urged Obama to give back tainted FM contributions in the 2008 campaign. No surprise since his only record is one of growing government.

TV Newt is fun and entertaining which helps the medicine go down but doesn’t change the heart of a liar and serial betrayer.

Last night Santorum admitted that it was Newt who taught him what it means to be conservative.

Sorry Jim, I’m not that desperate. I keep thinking of that NY 23 race, the climate change advocate and the sky high ego “I am the nominee”. I will vote for him if he is the one but not too excited about it.

GOVERNOR MITT ROMNEY: 22:08:29:00 And I'm president of the United States, I will exercise sobriety, care, stability.

That is NOT timidity. And I noticed when Mitt made the above statement, Newt exhibited a noticeable tic in his left eye.

And it was Santorum who agreed with Romney that truth re Middle East tensions must be tempered with prudence, i.e., Newt was out of line on his Pali pronouncement. Sometimes the student matures and becomes the teacher.

Oh I agree with you - just pointing out that “not all mandates are created equal.” And as such, it is dishonest to make some of the comparisons that are being made.

But on the larger point, I am with you.

Not surprisingly, that’s exactly the problem with our current Republican majority in congress. They’re acting as if they are still the minority. No offense whatsoever. We need someone with Newt’s spunk to spur them into action.

Nominate and elect pro-life, Reaganite Newt Gingrich and give him veto proof congressional majorities and a clear mandate to bust the socialist Democrats and take our freedom back from the godless liberals!!

"I think the tea party is beginning to warm up to him. Newt is a pro-life, Reagan Coalition Christian conservative and he’s knowledgeable, experienced, fully vetted (sought redemption and is largely forgiven), is battle tested and rip-roaring ready to hit the ground running. No on the job training necessary. He’s a deficit cutting, tax cutting, budget balancing, welfare reforming, socialist healthcare program (HillaryCare) blocking, small government, big defense dynamo. He’s already taking the battle to the enemy. In short, we’re desperate and he’s exactly what we’re looking for." -Jim Robinson

“I’ll tell you this. Whoever in this field takes it to Obama the straightest and the hardest and the most direct, is who’s gonna win. They’re gonna have to take it to Obama. This isn’t a ‘pussy-foot around’ type of election. This is not, ‘Oh, we’ve got to worry about what they’re gonna say about us, we’ve got to worry about PR, about charges of racism.’ Somebody’s got to be willing to take it to Obama. It’s going to be about him and four more years of this stuff and we’ll see if there’s anybody in this field willing to do that.” ~ Rush Limbaugh - March 25th, 2011

I have a feeling that pretty soon, Newt will say what the establishment will think is ANOTHER "stupid" thing, saying something like this:

"With his Osawatomie Speech on 12/06/2011, Obama has deliberately come out of the closet as a Communist, showing that communism is his objetive. That speech was a Marxist attack on America, pure and simple."

<>

"...Folks, I don't think any longer it is improper to use the word "communist" to describe Obama, communism to describe his objectives, nor is it wrong to use the word "communist" or "communism" to associate with the trade labor movement, be it the AFL-CIO or the mine workers or the SEIU. I mean they've made it clear, Obama came out of the closet. We called him out. We set the arena. Obama is now playing in our arena, not the Republican Party's arena..." ~ Rush Limbaugh, December 08, 2011

JimRob sent me this video of Gingrich doing what he does best: cut through the commentator's BS, called him on his not-so-hidden agenda, and then declared that ObamaCare must be repealed.

That's a good first step. The video did my heart good...

For all of Newt’s shortcomings (remember, the Clintonistas said they were voting for a president, not the Pope), I like that he intends to appoint John Bolton as Sec of State if elected.

Santorum performs consistently well in the debates, and he was the most consistent conservative on that stage last night. Yet the Tea Party and evangelicals prefer to reinvent FreddiMac-supporting, global warming advocate, NY Times best-selling author (as he reminded everyone last night), Al Sharpton pal Newt Leroy MacPherson Gingrich into their preferred candidate, and he has polled as a sure loser to Obama.

You are 100% correct. It boggles my mind how anyone with any understanding of the 2008 election can be supporting a repeat in 2012. If GOP voters nominate McNewt as their candidate, then they deserve what they get - four more years of Obama.

On style alone, the American voter will no longer connect with any candidate born before 1950. And to think that Newt Gingrich is older than George W. Bush. So here it is twelve years later, and we're going to nominate someone older than Bush? Like I said, McCain all over again.

I would surmise that those 82% know nothing about GingrichCare.

Yep, just us ol' dumb ass hicks with our guns and Bibles and we don't know squat about the grinch that stole Christmas.

We do know that your ILLEGAL ALIEN loving governor, that is as senile as a 100 year old moonshiner, can't carry Newt's 21 books, let alone speak two coherent sentences without letting his dementia show through.

We know who Newt is, and you can surmise anything you choose to, but us 82% stupid TEA party folks sho' do thank you massa hoodat.

You are really insulting to a whole bunch of folks.

First there is no single entity called The Tea Party. Tea Partiers are simply a group of people with common interests joining together to combat Marxism , crony politics and political elitists. Gingrich falls into at least two of those categories. If Tea Partiers are lining up for Gingrich I need to unhitch myself pronto from the Tea Party label.

I do not believe these polls because I don’t believe real Tea Partiers are for one nano second taken in by the elitist RINO Gingrich. This is a push poll meant to make Gingrich inevitable. Gingrich is not inevitable and there is a long way to go to election day.

“Not timidity, but prudence! Calling the Palis an ‘invented’ people in public is no more helpful to the situation than Barack Hussein stating publicly that Israel should return to the pre-1967 borders. Both Gingrich and Obama fail as statesmen in this regard. They are too concerned with throwing red-meat rhetoric to their respective bases, but it is irresponsible and infringes on Israel’s right of leadership.”

I disagree with you on this.

PRUDENCE is exactly the same word used by Romney against Gingrich last night ... if I remember correctly. There was a sense of joy upon hearing those words of truth last night.....VERY much like when Reagan called the Soviets that “evil empire” ... and when calling for the wall to be torn down.

This has not infringed on Israel.

That’s pretty close to Newt’s view too if you care to read up on him. He says our health insurance costs whether government or employer provided will never be brought under control as long as the individual is not responsible in large part for his own care and well being. As long as we rely on insurance or government to pay the large majority of our bills and could care less about the actual costs, our premiums and healthcare costs are going to continue to soar.

He’s in favor of making health insurance more portable and incentivizing them through tax deductions for individuals and by giving people more choices so individuals can afford to purchase their own plans and not lose them as they move from job to job. Also to turn government involvement back over to the states for poor people so it can be better controlled locally. Also wants tort reform to reduce the costs of junk lawsuits.
