Gingrich: Barack Diplomacy 'Favoring the Terrorists'

GOP presidential hopeful Newt Gingrich has gotten himself into hot water with the Arab world, and with the Palestinian Authority over an interview he gave to The Jewish Channel.

Gingrich last week told the Jewish cable television station that the claim of Palestinian Authority Arabs to be "a people" is not legitimate, and that diplomatic efforts by the Obama administration in fact "favored the terrorists." The former Speaker of the House of Representatives said in the interview, "Remember, there was no Palestine as a state. It was part of the Ottoman Empire" until the early 20th century.

"I think that we've had an invented Palestinian people who are in fact Arabs, and who were historically part of the Arab community. And they had a chance to go many places, and for a variety of political reasons we have sustained this war against Israel now since the 1940s and it's tragic," he said. Gingrich said the Hamas terrorist organization, which has ruled Gaza since 2007, and the Fatah-ruled PA government in Ramallah that controls Areas A and B in Judea and Samaria, show "an enormous desire to destroy Israel."

In short, added Gingrich, the peace process between the Jewish State and the PA has been "delusional," and the effort by U.S. President Barack Obama and his administration to treat the PA the same as Israel is actually "favoring the terrorists."

You said the forbidden word. Now his minions will descend on this thread and demand that we debate the case from the beginning.

I believe it touched on US nuclear security secrets which is why it was considered such a grave offense. I have no idea where the news article got the idea that a two to four year sentence is normal for something he could have been executed for, but wasn’t.

“I have no idea where the news article got the idea that a two to four year sentence is normal for something he could have been executed for, but wasn’t.”

Because it’s true. People who spy for China routinely get 2-4 years. Pollard got far more time than most people who spied for Iran and the Soviet Union. Nobody other than Pollard has ever gotten life for spying for an ally. You can check it out at the weobsite below. It’s a site that advocates Pollarad’s release, so it’s admitedly baised, but the info is factual.

Look, I really didn’t have any strong opinion about the Pollard case until a couple days ago. So I did a bit of research and it seems to me Newt is right. Considering we share high-tech military info both ways with Israel, I don’t think this hurt our national security, and compared to other sentences, his seems way out of line. So I don’t have a problem with Newt saying he would let him out having served 27 years already. I don’t really care if he doesn’t either. OK?

Readin the european press ( I am an European), I am shocked at the comments directed at Mr Gingrich. Here we have a polititian telling the truth about the palestinians, he is being slammed. I remember the press in europe crying about polititians never telling the truth.
Of course in most European press, your “liar in chief”, hussein obama, is revered. Rules for lefty liars another for truth telling Republicans.

Not being American I don´t care which Republican you vote for, but PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE, get rid of the democrats. in 2012.

Amen to that as a recovering American, novice Israeli. I’d even put up with Gingrich, although it is nice that his pander du jour is Israel.

I was equally ambivalent, until I learned a bit more. He didn’t just spy for Israel. He spied for the Soviets and many others. They convicted him of only one count of spying for Israel in order to avoid making public all the sensitive material he passed on to non-allied, adversarial countries. Based on that and the fact that he did do one good deed with the Iraqi reactor, he is making himself out to be some kind of Israeli patriot when in fact he was an egotistical coke head who betrayed the country he pledged to serve, the US of A, and not just to Israel. Maybe 27 years is enough. But they executed the Rosenbergs for spying for the Soviets, and maybe he’s lucky to have dodged that. Anyway, please, no more. I was trying to avoid just this kind of discussion, being afflicted with acute P#@#$d fatigue from the last time. Said all I’m going to say. Rebut or don’t as you wish.

The Pollard crap is a non-issue.

The FACT remains that what other GOP candidate would have the cojones to say what Gingrich said about Obama and the Palestinians?
