DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) -- Republican presidential hopeful Newt Gingrich says he is being factually accurate when he calls the Palestinians an "invented" people and says they are the creation of anti-Israel propaganda.
Gingrich's chief rival for the presidential nomination, former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney, says the former House speaker has made a mistake in the description and has made it more difficult for Israelis and Palestinians to negotiate toward peace.

Yeah, in 1970s - maybe.
Newt is stuck in “history”. And, his comparison to Reagan’s direct stances against the Soviets was ridiculous on its face. Soviets were the enemies of the US. Palestinians (yes, that is now a settled term) are the enemies of Israel. It is just very stupid to speak for them.
Yeah....Wait a few days or weeks and he will be the “healer of the Middle East” and propose a grand bargain with Hamas. You never know.
With the Arab's, their book, 'How to Serve Jews', is a cook book!
[ That may win him applause with red meat ready base. But, these statements are irrational. They advance no interest of the US. ]
The truth is irrational?...
Truth is not irrational. Making inflammatory statements that throw monkey wrenches into the most volatile region in the world is irrational. Especially, as a Presidential candidate who is supposedly the latest frontrunner. Newt wants to be a historian (like he claimed in the debate), then he should go be one. He is not auditioning for that job though, unfortunately for the GOP.
Jim - I may have missed your reasoning for going Newt, instead of Perry. It is puzzling to me.
Yeah right. The Palestinians don’t have a home today because the ARAB states next door don’t want them, closed the borders to them, and will not let them in.
The Palestinians were dancing in the streets on 9/11, and they are the enemies of Israel, sending wave after wave of suicide bombers across the borders to kill women and children.
That's precisely like saying we shouldn't signal a preference between cold-blooded murdering gangster thugs and innocent people. How I despise that RINO POS. What a totally useless excuse for a human being.
It seems unlikely Newt would be making these moves without some sense of Israel's take. I'm surprised, actually, there has been a comment one way or another since they have seemed happy to comment freely in the past.
I have zero problem with Newt’s comment, it’s entirely true. It’s not diplomatic, and it probably isn’t helpful to U.S. standing in the region were Gingrich to become president, or to the Israelis, which was a fair point by Romney, but it was nice to hear someone cut through the crap for once.
Newt won my vote with his guts to tell the truth !
A quick check for claims against this quote did not yield anything.
Although I was not able to find any archive of the magazine or such, this quote seems likely genuine IMAO (in my arrogant opinion).
The reason that I took a keen interest, is that its a great quote to use to open peoples eyes to the real situation...however I do not fully trust WorldNetDaily to double check the authenticity of such things.
About damm time.
Oh, come ON! Get real! That is just political theater.
The Palestinians don't mean any of that rhetoric, any more than Hitler meant what he wrote in Mein Kampf!
Oh, wait; he not only meant it, he tried to accomplish it...and the same is true for them.
The Muslims would murder Israel at the drop of a hat and Obammy has now surrounded Israel with radical Muslim governments. What a disaster he has been for the world.
The Palestinians teach their children that to die killing Jews is “sweet”.
Their children.
Their babies.
That for their offspring to die while murdering men, women, and children is sweet. This is how they have been raising an entire generation. Araphat started this. Got the Peace Prize for this.
They aren’t our enemies? I beg to differ.
“That may win him applause with red meat ready base. But, these statements are irrational. They advance no interest of the US.”
just like when Reagan called the Soviet Union an evil empire?
Stephen Harper of Canada:
“When Israel, the only country in the world whose very existence is under attack, is consistently and conspicuously singled out for condemnation, I believe we are morally obligated to take a stand.
I know, by the way, because I have the bruises to show for it, that whether it is at the United Nations, or any other international forum, the easiest thing to do is simply to just get along and go along with this anti-Israeli rhetoric, to pretend it is just about being even-handed, and to excuse oneself with the label of honest broker.
If the Canadians can get it right, why can’t Romney?
