Karl Rove thinks Mitt Romney probably should have begun attacks on Newt Gingrich much earlier in the presidential campaign, he told me on Good Morning America. But Rove is not convinced that a drawn out primary will hurt Republicans and he said a fight for their nomination could create a better nominee to face President Obama.
Rove said he is not very impressed with the attacks that Romney has launched so far. Today he described them as flailing so far.

SOB prolly now trying to set himself up for a job with Newt.
And we know Rove is always right? the same guy that never thought Gingrich would poll above single digits? the same guy that thought the dems fight between Hillary and Zero would splinter the democrat party? why is this man a PAID political analysis for Fox? so far there are 2 BIG strikes on him.
You BETCHA!
Just a feint.....
I’ll say! Rove is a major sickie who absolutely hates women. Weirdo.
Bush had a really good first term. In the second term, when he really started listening to Rove, that’s when things got screwed up. Karl wanted Bush to stop defending himself against his critics. Most people think that if a person has nothing to say in the face of criticism, they must be stumped. That more than anything else fed the fire that Bush is really stupid.
After not defending himself for years, what issue does he come out strong on? Illegal immigration, and he’s on the wrong side of it! Then he really went off the rails with TARP and bank bailouts (”we have to abandon free-market principles in order to save it”). The economy really started to tank just as GW was leaving, which gave 0bama a ton of ammo.
Bush won both terms by the skin of his teeth against opponents that were positively awful. That’s not the stuff of genius in my book. And Rove’s advice and tactics were a complete disaster when it came to actually running a presidential administration.
Bush did great when he was running things as a conservative. When he went progressive, it all crashed and burned.
And it was Rove’s brilliant idea that Bush not defend himself against his critics. You don’t want to be hyper-reactive to every little thing, but you’ve got to stand up and coherently explain what you’re doing and why. When Bush had nothing, it appears that you’re just dumbstruck and that’s when the MSM’s “Bush is stupid” campaign really got traction.
And when he did decide to be strong on an issue, what was it? Illegal immigration, and he was on the wrong side of it! Bush must’ve employed an illegal alien that he underpaid (or stiffed him on his last under-the-table cash payment by having him deported) and felt horribly guilty forever after.
I don’t understand why Romney’s still around.
We don’t like him.
Media doesn’t like him.
Even the Democrats are running ads against him here.
Who likes him? America hates you, Mitt!
Your sentiments about Romney are correct and agreed with by many here on FR, especially the owner of this site.
Best wishes, FRiend.
“The notion that Rove is a boy genius was always a croc IMO.”
Probably.
If he was actually attempting to win victories, yes, it is all hype. What should have been comfortable wins were all paper thin, nail biting squeakers, and should be set in the context of a steady decline of GOP and conservative power and influence. Those who brayed and who still bray about his intellectual excellence always struck me as a bit stupid though, so it may have been a comparative genius.
If his real life’s work was to drag the institutional GOP and its more unreflective vassals towards a Hubert Horatio Humphrey kind of place and as far away from Reaganism as possible, then he is indeed a genius, albeit in an Iago-Quisling kind of way.
“Who likes him?”
An entrenched, ‘progressive’, influential family of dedicated globalists whose name rhymes with “mush”.
Rove said he is not very impressed with the attacks that Romney has launched so far. Today he described them as flailing so far.I had wondered when even establishment GOPers would begin to turn on Romney.
Rove is paid to say things ....Its called being an analyst....he may have favorites but an analysts job is to analyse and thats what he does. He says nice things at times and not nice things at times.
I think the hatred for Rove here has a lot in common with the hatred for GW Bush. It is irrational
At least Dick Morris is watchable — and even sometimes correct — but Rove comes across as a pompous, arrogant, elitist jerk.
Agreed. Both candidates running against Bush were awful and he should’ve won easily. What Rove has done for Bush and the GOP is not impressive, at all.
