Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich (R-Ga.) called for an immediate repeal of President Obama's healthcare law but would reinstate "a little over 10 percent" of it.
He made the remarks on Thursday in Iowa, when he introduced a new version of his "Contract with America."
Gingrich, a candidate for the Republican presidential nomination, listed "Repeal ObamaCare" as the first of his 10 part contract.
"The reason you have to repeal it is it's a 2,700-page document," Gingrich said. "You can't repeal part of it, because candidly you can't trust the staffs to tell you which part you ought to repeal."
But the former Speaker stressed that he had a "common-sense replacement" for the nation's healthcare system, and that some of that comes from the law he wants repealed.
"Now there are about 300 pages that are pretty good, a little over 10 percent, but they should be part of the replace document," Gingrich said.

I take that reply back. I didn’t read your’s carefully enough. sorry!!!
No... He votes “present, but unaccounted for!”
That's not how a free market works.
If you can't afford to buy a Mercedes, you buy a Ford or Toyota or what ever you can afford.
That doesn't "force" Mercedes to lower their prices to match a Toyota Camry.
And while you don't want to admit it, you were pushing your version of communism.
Tough to admit it but "if you had your way, you'd impose your will" and force people to do what you think is best for them.
A little joe stalin in the "ez".
I apologize for pinging you out of the blue, but I was called a marxist, and felt the need to defend myself. Thank you for your reasonable response. I understand how some people misread what I said through my choice of words, but I am disturbed by the enthusiasm for the “gotcha” game around here and the knee-jerk, frothing at the mouth tendency to slander anyone who says anything controversial, even 13 year FReepers with a record of conservatism.
I would happily offer limited consultative services to the industry and you are certainly free to tell them so.
Regardless of what you think, I know me perfectly well, and happen to be in the perfect position to recognize that you are completely wrong. IOW, epic fail. But good luck with your future analysis...
The people of the United States, via the Constitution, did not grant the national government lawful jurisdiction or legitimate power over our health care.
End of discussion. Obama’s scheme is unconstitutional, and so is Gingrich’s.
Once again, the old story proves true: The Democrats propose to tear down the Washington Monument, and the Republicans respond with a detailed, workable plan to do it in three stages.
Oh, and by the way, pricing themselves too high to the point where no-one would purchase their cars WOULD force Mercedes to lower their price of go out of business. That’s the whole point. Eliminating health insurance would force service providers to charge what people could afford to pay.
Interesting rant, for sure, but I think you may have meant it for someone else. I was just on this thread b/c of some random claim of a lack of loyalty to Sarah Palin by us ungrateful peons is why she’s not running for President...
One of the prime executives lives very near to you in that little town called Scott’s Valley! I just met with him this past thursday. I’ll let him know about you and we’ll see what happens.
Thanks for accepting my point of view. Since I wasn’t involved in the initial firefight I figured I could offer an objective perspective on your original statement.
Enjoy the weekend! :)
ok, I see where you were going with it, sorry I posted before reading the thread, but I think your original phrasing did suggest a very different direction.....
With any luck, 300 pages of Gingrichcare will never make it through the new Congress.
Unlike the Pelosi/Reid Congress, the new one may be able to block some of this shit.
Thank you. If the industry truly understood the scale of the opportunities available, I’d bet they’d drop the fascist model in a heartbeat. At least, I am praying that it is so.
So... he does still support the individual mandate?
I do not want a government coordinated healthcare system
Maybe he would appoint Dede Scozafava on the SCOTUS??
Everyone who disagrees with your take on something sure is dumb. Who knew?
...so did a lot of other people. sorry :(
