RUSH: In three weeks and one day the 100-watt incandescent light bulb will be illegal. In three weeks and one day it will be illegal to sell a 100-watt incandescent light bulb. And who did this? The federal government. The federal government, under the auspices of a hoax, mankind global warming. You know, I've been staying in a lot of hotels lately, been doing a little traveling, and hotels are like a lot of other businesses, they just run scared of any regulatory agency. Nobody stands up to regulatory agency, and you can understand it. So you walk in and you turn on the lamp and you know that it's a compact fluorescent. You know because it's inferior light. You know because it's small and tiny. You know because it isn't going to be sufficient. The Democrat led federal government is taking us backwards. The enemy of the Democrat Party is progress. In three weeks and one day, illegal to buy an incandescent light bulb. And you know what that means, when the 100-watt incandescent light bulbs are outlawed only criminals will have them. That means me. I will be a criminal. (interruption) Well, you can have them but you can't sell them, but they're still gonna be gunning for you. At some point it's gonna be illegal to have them. But if you can't sell them -- (interruption) well, if I use one in proximity to a turtle? Yeah, then it could be jail time.

Is a ban on incandescent light bulbs really coming to the United States? Technically speaking, no, an incandescent light ban is not about to take place.
On January 1, 2012, the light bulb police will NOT come and haul you away if you light your home with 100 watters. It won’t even be illegal to buy or sell them.
But it WILL be illegal to manufacture 100 watt incandescent bulbs in - or import said light bulbs into - the United States as of that date.

Boehner shares in the blame...he set up that bogus vote to overturn the ban..
That is the ugliest light bulb. I hope I never run out of the incandescents.
The brightest bulb in the White House ? That could be a problem.
Heck, buy a 100w flood light and see how quick they burn out!
Less than 2 months on a multiple year bulb!
“The brightest bulb in the White House ? That could be a problem.”
Welcome to the 25 watt presidency. If you squint, you can at least see the end of it.
If it’s -10 degrees outside does my 100 w incandescent lightbulb in my kitchen really waste that much energy?
BTTT.
Box it up and send it to the White House addressed to the alleged brightest bulb in the package.
Sending hazardous materials to the White House? That’ll make you disappear.
Why some Conservatives are so romantic over light bulbs and toilets I can't understand. They are generally logical, except when it comes to these two items. Just let go of your antique light bulbs, your 3.5 & 5 gpf toilets, and your buggy whips.
I believe we’re gonna do some stocking up this weekend. Hopefully we can get enough on hand to last us until some sensible politicians get into office and repeal this mindless bullshit.
You must admit, this hoarding of LIGHT BULBS, is a little nutty. How many 8 tracks do you have, Beta max tapes, dial telephones, tube type B&W TVs, wringer washing machines. Does your car have a “crank” sticking out the front? Does the “ice man” still bring ice for your ice box?
Don't be mad, only meant in a spirit of pointed humor.
Sorry Rush but it was YOUR MAN GWB and Pelosi that teamed up in 2007 to pass the obscene energy bill that banned these light bulbs. It mandated ethanol too. Does Rush think Newt ('Nancy Pelosi and I believe in man made climate change') would be any better? Man we are screwed!
I was using fluorescent replacement for screw in bulbs back when the only thing was the Circlines. They were great in large ceiling fixtures and broad shaded table lamps. Producing less heat they did not fight the air conditioning as badly in the summer.
Later on I started using twisty bulbs everywhere possible. I think only my refrigerator, and a motion activated rear deck light, has a filament bulb now.
But darn it, I don’t want Congress messing in my choice of light bulbs. The old filament bulbs generate no electrical noise (unless about to fail), they produce a light with a continuous, not spiky spectrum which makes colors look more natural, they are copacetic with every kind of light dimmer (and they shift to a more reddish shade as they dim, which is reminiscent of a sunset, while “dimmable” twisties just give you a less bright pale light, they don’t track well, and they’re horribly expensive).
I’d sooner see “energy ratings” pasted on the packages, like is done with washing machines and water heaters. And I don’t mean “save $93.50” which varies heavily with electric rates and the wildly varying lives of individual twisty bulbs. Something more like X out of 100 where 100/100 would be a theoretically perfect conversion to light.
It may be a minority, but it definitely exists, that are badly bothered by the spectrum of fluorescent lamps of any kind.
I’m hoarding them.
Dude, I think CFLs are fine in a lot of places but I also think the people that force you to buy a vastly more expensive bulb to put in a closet that you only snap on once every two weeks for thirty seconds have a logic problem also. My point was that the “waste” heat is not a total waste. I don’t think CFLs are going to save enough energy to power everyone’s electric cars without bringing on additional generating capacity. Some people seem to think they will.
