Newt Presents a Fresh New Virtual Face (say hello to Newt's transnationalist friends)

Before you newly active Republicans commit to Newt Gingrich as your presidential nominee on the basis of the recent debates, here's a bit of Newt history you ought to know. I promise you, it's going to come up if he's the candidate.

The day after the Republicans' historic takeover of the House of Representatives in the 1994 election, Newt was off and running, giving a series of Fidel Castro-style speeches about "the Third Wave information revolution." It had the unmistakable ring of lingo from his new-age gurus, Alvin and Heidi Toffler.

...

Far from needing government agencies to help us "cope" with these advances -- "Scientific Futurists," a "Technology Ombudsman" and a "Council of Social Advisers," as proposed by the Tofflers -- the masses have taken to these improvements like fish to water.

The Tofflers' recommendation that children be eased into the coming technological revolution with adult mentors sounds like the proposal of Clinton's surgeon general, Joycelyn Elders, that schools teach teenagers to masturbate. In both subject areas, the children can teach their elders a few tricks.

Not only was it completely crazy, but Newt's grand schemes didn't quite fit the Republican model of a small, unintrusive federal government.

But Gingrich became a Toffler acolyte when he was an assistant history professor at West Georgia College and attended a Toffler seminar in Chicago. Alvin didn't notice Gingrich at the time, but later remarked: "He kept reminding me of himself in letters."

Has anybody around here on FR read the Toffler's book?

Based on what I've seen so far, Mises has some information, and View from the right has some more the things that these people believe in is chilling, which is probably an understatement.

While it's true that Ann has drunk the Romney kool-aide, it's even more true that these people - the Tofflers - are truely frightening.

Sorry Ann. It’s Newt or your pet liberal.

I don’t vote for liberals. YEs, Newt has made mistakes, no I do not trust the man.

But he’s better than Romney and he’s damned sure better than Obama.

This is what Mises says:(linked above)

============If their predictions are banal, and their social theory unfounded and simplistic, their recommendations for political change are more than a little sinister. Although constantly calling for decentralization, they also complain that we are “politically primitive and undeveloped” at the “transnational level.” Decisions must be transferred “up” from the nation-state (p. 100). Translating the Tofflers’ Third Wave argot into English, this is a call for global government. Not surprisingly, those who oppose Nafta are prisoners of the outmoded Second Wave.===============

There’s a very real and honest question to ask about the damage that a President Gingrich could do to the already damaged American sovereignty.

The kids these days, and many of the older 'conservatives,' have either completely ignored or forgotten the fascination Gingrich has for the Toffler's crap.

Many of the Democrats are salivating over the possibility of a Gingrich nomination - thinking he will be Obama's salvation and ticket to (more likely) re-election.

Ok...and Ann Coulter has credibility because she was orgasming over Chris Christie to enter the race and, when he chose not to, has endorsed Mitt Romney. Right.

No thanks. Piss on Romney.

Ann, you bailed on all of the conservative candidates months ago. Once you side with Mitt Romneycare, you have forfeited all authority to preach to conservatives on these matters.

I could have written the same article as you have, only substituting ROmney’s flip-flops, Romneycare, fund-raising for NARAL, and running to the left of Ted Kennedy on social issues.

I am from the northeast. In fact, I am from CT, and I know the locutional cues from southerners and Alaskans that yankees don’t like.

Newt eats that stuff up. He loves it. Anything about personal empowerment, think a conservative Oprah, he loves.

I remember when he was first speaker. He was a witness at some congressional panel. He said that all poor children should be given laptops to empower them and break out of the poverty cycle. Dingle was so happy he said that, “We might agree on more than I thought.”

Here is a liberal article from 1995 I found, http://news.google.com/newspapers?id=ILtNAAAAIBAJ&sjid=8fwDAAAAIBAJ&pg=5106,5536207&dq=newt+laptops+poor&hl=en

Reading it I see a long forgotten nickname for Newt, Speaker Moonbeam.

Today it seems every poor person has a cell phone and yet they are still poor. It’s Newt’s Hamiltonian propensity to be overly excited by what government can do (and spend money on) that gives me chills.

Dear God. We are going to screw this up again. I can’t believe how dumb the party is. Oh well. I watched in shock as the Republicans AND conservatives nominated McCain. I can’t believe they are doing this crap again. Newt? Good Lord we are going to lose and lose badly to the biggest loser President in history. I voted for McCain sadly, but Newt is a whole different story. The guy didn’t even go in the military. I can’t hold my nose for this guy. Don’t worry. I will still vote for the Senate and House elections.

I caught my cousin inviting her liberal friends on facebook to vote for Gingrich in polls and vote for him in the primary if possible.

THere exists not one chance in hell that President Obama or Romney would be better in any measurable way.

You don’t just have to convince me NOT to vote for Newt, you have to convince me WHY Obama or Romney would be better.

Unfortunately the rest have zero traction whatsoever. I like many of the others but they can’t articulate or motivate their way out of a paper bag.

If you can’t energize the base, you have no chance of winning a national.

Just reality.
