s Newt Gingrich a realistic threat to win the GOP nomination?
The Romney campaign certainly seems to think so. Ron Fournier, writing in National Journal, reports that Romneys campaign is in a state of near panic. The campaign put together a conference call with reporters featuring prominent GOP officials who lambasted Gingrich in terms that you rarely hear within a political party:
The speaker is running as a reliable and trusted conservative leader. What were here to say, with reluctance, but clearly, is he is not a reliable or trustworthy conservative leader, Sen. Jim Talent told reporters on a conference call arranged by the Romney campaign.
After that bit of throat-clearing, former New Hampshire Gov. John Sununu ventured beyond the bounds of a typical political attack, signaling how seriously and, perhaps, desperately the Romney camp is taking Gingrichs rise. He called Gingrichs criticism of Rep. Paul Ryans budget plan, beloved by most conservatives, an effort of self-aggrandizement and the most self-serving anti-conservative thing one can imagine.
He all but called Gingrich crazy. Saying the attack on Ryans plan is part of a pattern of unpredictable behavior that goes back to Gingrichs days as speaker, Sununu termed it the most perfect example of irrational behavior that you do not want in the commander-in-chief.
I dont think Newt Gingrich cares about conservative principles, Sununu said. Newt Gingrich cares about Newt Gingrich.
Here are the polling numbers of the first four primary states, released yesterday by CNN, that inspired the MittFit:

Nobody has the right to deny him the nomination.
We OWE it to him.
If there were no quotes in the article, I would agree.
Just seeing that Newt can get Mitt to sweat this much is joyous.
Just dreaming that Newt could get Commie Obomby to sweat as much is pure delicious !!! THAT is why we like him.
"It is Mitt's turn.
He may be ineligible but
he actually walked with Martin Luther King."
It appears to me the old GOP establishment is afraid that Gingrich will rock the boat and remove the status quo that the country club republicans hold dear. Even if there is a republican senate majority, the establishment republicans are going to dig in their heels to stop any transformation of big government. They love things just the way they are because it ensures their power and the feeling of power. This proves that Gingrich is not a Washington insider or establishment republican.
Mittens has kittens.
The sooner Romney drops out the better.

LOL!

THIS IS THE POT CALLING THE KETTLE BLACK, and WITH GOOD REASON. Romney you are even less of a consistent conservative.
Romney needs to go away; we don’t want him.
They are right about Gingrich. I don’t want him as president either. I think he is dangerous.
But, but, but: why does Romney need to be president so badly? I haven’t heard him say that he feels only he can do xyz and save the nation. Its not a fun job. Why is Romney so desperate for it?
AUGUST 29, 1997
John Sununu, Jr.:
Gingrich “has the ability to put forward a focused message, to talk about issues in detail, to talk about policy, to talk about strategy for the party, and where we want to be for the future, and that message is always going to be important and of great appeal to people who are trying to organize and work at the grassroots level.”

One can only wonder why.
Enemies foreign and domestic hate an unpredictable opponent more than anything. That includes the Democrazy Party.
As a conservative, I am in panic over both of them.
Now that the 75% of GOP voters that don't want Romney are starting to coalese around a single candidate (Newt) Romney's strategy is falling apart. As far as I can tell, he has no back up plan other than trash Newt and build up the other conservative candidates.
The other thing happening (that seems to be going unreported) is that Huntsman is picking up some steam at Romney's expense. It looks like Romney's supporters (in NH particularly) are starting to realize Romney is in trouble and looking at plan-B. Bill Bennett (who has been in the tank for Romney) gave Huntsman over an hour of uninterrupted time on his radio show this week right in the middle of AM drive time--a huge plug by any standard.

Aren't these merely code words ("reliable" and "trusted") indicating that he can be controlled - and manipulated - by the RINO Republican leadership, that he will do their bidding as payback for their support?
That essentially means nothing more than that he will not stand on his fundamental beliefs - if he has any.
I dont think Newt Gingrich cares about conservative principles, Sununu said. Newt Gingrich cares about Newt Gingrich.
Governor, I KNOW Mitt Romney doesn’t care about conservative principles. Mitt Romney cares about Mitt Romney.
Gingrich openly battled Tip O’Neill, helped Reagan, took the House from the democratic party, passed welfare reform again and again and again until Clinton signed it, passed balanced budgets, created a surplus, lowered taxes, cut the House staff by a third, eliminated useless committees, got rid of the seniority system for House committees, instituted term limits for committee chairmen and his own position, and impeached a rogue, criminal-minded president. Romney can’t compare to Gingich on conservative principles or actions.
Time to question his judgment on the reality of his campaign
