Romney: Gingrich will fade during long race
The Washington Examiner ^ | December 7, 2011 | Susan Ferrechio

Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney, who trails former House Speaker Newt Gingrich by double digits in key early states, told The Washington Examiner on Wednesday that he believes he can still clinch the nomination by winning contests later in the primary calendar and by waiting for Gingrich’s newfound popularity to fade.

In a wide-ranging interview with The Examiner’s editorial board, the former Massachusetts governor said he couldn’t explain why his poll numbers have remained stagnant while a succession of other GOP candidates have surged ahead of him. But he predicts Gingrich, the latest to supercede him in the polls, will suffer the fate of the rest and eventually will fall behind him again. Romney admits, though, that the contest could stretch out for months.

Romney said he would make a better president than Gingrich because he is a consensus builder. He suggested that Gingrich is divisive and less able to lead.

“Transforming and turning around and leading major enterprises is what I’ve done throughout my life, and I have only been able to do that by bringing people together and engendering consensus — and that’s a characteristic of my past,” Romney said. “Speaker Gingrich has a very different past in terms of his leadership style and in terms of his life experience.

RINO definition of "consensus": "What's yours is yours and what's is mine is negotiable."

We are what we elect. I’m afraid to say that based on that track record our Darwin Awards should be issued very soon.

Well, he’s probably right, unless he somehow loses New Hampshire.

The consensus in many places at many times was not in need of building, but destroying.

Mao, Stalin, Pol-Pot, Hitler, Jimmy Carter, and the Muslem Brotherhood are all great consensus builders in their time.

Now why is a consensus a good thing?

Good grief, you haven't figured out an answer to this yet, Mitt?

I can imagine what he'll say next November 5:

"The former Republican presidential candidate said he couldn't explain why he lost what should have been a slam dunk election landslide to President Obama."

Newt may very well fade, but as I see it, Romney is the bridesmaid and never the bride.

If Rats have their way they’ll chew down everybody but (maybe) Huntsman. Mitt better watch his own six.

If it were possible for a committee to run for president, this would make sense. Otherwise they have to compete, and to be honest it is Rats that have done the most damage.

That translates into someone who sees his lead in the New Hampshire primary slip-sliding away.
