Ol’ Slabsides remains my favorite .45.
I wish I could afford one.
Anyone know the price?
I LOVE my 1911, granted it’s not a Colt, but I love it the same. Bought it this year, have had a blast with it since.
I’ve got the Colt Delta Elite in 10mm, picked it up cheap and although I haven’t fired it much at all I really want to match it with a .45 someday.
Or sell it, make me an offer... :)
Springfield Armory mil spec bump.
I really like my M1911. My father in law plans to give me the one he has in the near future.
Still my favorite, after all these years. I own two 1911’s - no other gun feels better in my hand. Oh, it’s a pain to clean ‘em properly, but worth the effort.
Definitely my fave. Thanks for the post.
Finally. Some good news !
I hope we have another John Browning. Genius doesn’t begin to describe him.
It's hard to improve upon perfection. But assuming I get my annual bonus this spring, I plan to buy one more:
I have a Colt Government Model that I bought new in about 1978. You just can’t beat perfection!
They look beautiful, but I heard the Kimbers weren’t so great. Any FR thoughts?

Let Freedom Ring,
I bought mine new 30 years ago and haven’t felt the need to buy another handgun. IMO no other product created by man has been perfect from virtually version one with the exception of the 1911 .45. I think it will be produced for another 100 years.
John Moses Browning was a genius gun designer of incredible talent. That said, Colt makes a crappy and overpriced 1911 now.
I can build you a 1911 on a frame from a handful of other manufacturers that will blow the Colt away in fit, finish and function. Hell, I’d even get one of those mass-produced Kimbers before I got a Colt.
Not sure what happened to Colt. Unions? Management? Business model philosophy? Not sure, but their modern products leave me, as a Degreed, Licensed and Certified Gunsmith, unimpressed.
True. Something to look at in awe. The 1911 and the Ma Deuce were designed 100 years and 90 years ago by a man who was born before the American Civil War.
My only issue with Kimber is that the factory sights are not as good as I’d expect from a pricey 1911, but that’s easily resolved with the addition of Trijicon 3-dot sights. I have also heard that the finish does not wear well with time, and also that the company’s customer service is inconsistent. That said, the pistol’s primary features are wonderful - match-grade trigger at 4.5 lbs pull, silky action, ergonomic grip, consistent feed on multiple ammo types, and astonishing accuracy once you’ve broken it in properly.
