I'm thinking that the victim's circumstance will be a non-English speaking person of very little education, immigration status - unlikely.

When I lived in the NW quadrant of Atlanta I would see vehicles (either cargo vans or pickup trucks loaded with rolls of carpeting, probably 2-3.5x the gross carrying capacity of the vehicle, with the carpet roll extending beyond the tailgate of back bumper and nearly dragging on the road surface. The front tires would only be making intermittent contact with the road surface, the vehicle's center of gravity having been shifted so far to the back. Inside, you would see several folks who might be Mexicans or Central Americans, hard to tell. But in addition to not being able to read and understand the carrying capacity limits of these vehicles, you knew they had no concept of fundamental physics (center of gravity, inertia, etc.) and were just a really bad accident waiting to happen.

This guy with the oven, same thing. In his case there may have been no externalities (he may have been directing the move - Doh!), on I-75 in Atlanta, a lot of innocent folks could get hurt.

A man died Tuesday after he was crushed by a tortilla oven behind an out-of-business supermarket.

His nickname wasn't "Tortilla Flats" by any chance, was it?

Freak accidents happen all the time .

I recall one case at the ports, where a trucker waiting in line for a container, jumps out of his truck to go pee, and runs across the roadway between stacked containers..

As he’s peeing, the trucker behind the guy that went to go pee, stands on his air horn as the guy peeing forgot to set his truck brake and his truck was slowly rolling back towards the horn honker.

He’s done peeing, hearing the horn and likely seeing his truck slowly rolling backwards, runs out between the tall containers, and is immediately run over by another tractor trailer driving by the row of containers where he was peeing.

It was a very ugly scene.

3000 lbs is nothing for your average forklift to handle. It is a problem for a group of idiots to handle though.

We must ban all ovens. /liberal solution

If we save the life of just one mexican illegal immigrant worker, it’s worth it.

"We do not suspect any foul play at all," Abruscato said. "This is a horrible accident."

Has terrorism been "ruled out" yet? Geeesh. These guys are real rocket scientists.

3,000-pound tortilla oven crushes man in Palm Springs

A quick glance of the headline game me this:

3,000 pound gorilla crushes man in Palm Springs.

That caught my eye, and I had to stop to read further. I was looking forward to reading about a real life King Kong. Became disappointed when I re-read the headline correctly.

Now, I'm left wondering about why somebody would have an oven that makes 3,000 pound tortillas.

(Admittedly, I didn't read into the article.)
