Perry was also Bush's Lt. Governor an elected position and the 1st Republican Lt. Governor ever elected in Texas. He has been a Representative and the Ag Commissioner so he has been in the Texas power structure.
Bush owned the rangers and then ran for Governor.

Remind me which party he belonged to during much of that time. Oh, and please don’t bring up President Reagan changing parties. He was NEVER a Democratic officeholder.
