If England has decided that they no longer need to project their military more than 10 metres (as they say) beyond their coast, then they don’t deserve to keep those islands, as they are nowhere close to being up to the fight.

Game over...just keep stripping down and giving your underwear to your newly-arrived immigrants, who hold the knives and guns (and judges) to get whatever they need from you wimps.

I wonder if that was one of the reasons Obozo waffled on the pipeline.

In actuality, I believe Prince William is about to have a tour of duty in the new year in the Falkland Islands. So indeed, royalty will be present there, possibly during further provocations on the part of Argentina. Will be interesting to keep one beady royal watching eye on this situation.

Forget E-Cat; just harness the rotational force from Admiral Lord Nelson’s casket. You could power a nation!

I can see messing with the British. But dragging Spain into it seems to be a rather stupid move on the part of the Argentines.

True, if Great Britain has a credible naval threat nearby, backed up with air power, Argentina is setting itself up for another old fashioned whuppin’.

Well, THAT’S different. In the hands of Islamists, nuclear weapons mean something else altogether.

In the hands of RATIONAL people, probably not.

Send a team from the RN//SBS into Argentina, grab Kirchener, bring her back to London, and imprison her in the Tower of London, where the tourists could pay £10 to throw rotten vegetables at her.

A Royal Navy torpedo might have a sobering effect on the Argentine Navy ala General Belgrano.

Try 5 submarines off the coast of Argentina with Harpoon missiles. Plus Typhoons running air support and ASM from the Falklands.

The Brits won’t nuke Argentina over the Falklands period . The Argentinians aren’t totally stupid so they won’t commit atrocities against the folks on the islands.

The Royal Navy still has nuclear submarines with torpedoes, cruise missiles, lock out chambers for Royal Navy Special Boat Squadron commando’s that the Brits can use to basically play havoc with the Argentinian maritime assets of all descriptions and sizes.

I thought this was a 20 year-old article. Great Britain needs to send a sub down there for some live-fire exercises.

Oil. It's all about the oil.

US Refuses To Endorse British Sovereignty in Falklands Oil Dispute
Times Online UK ^ | February 25, 2010 | Giles Whittell and James Bone

Washington refused to endorse British claims to sovereignty over the Falkland Islands yesterday as the diplomatic row over oil drilling in the South Atlantic intensified in London, Buenos Aires and at the UN. Despite Britain’s close alliance with the US, the Obama Administration is determined not to be drawn into the issue. It has also declined to back Britain’s claim that oil exploration near the islands is sanctioned by international law, saying that the dispute is strictly a bilateral issue.

Try 5 submarines off the coast of Argentina with Harpoon missiles. Plus Typhoons running air support and ASM from the Falklands.

And more importantly, Tomahawks. Remember that while the "Black Buck" missions with the Vulcans were targeted at taking out Argie radar sites on the island and cutting the Stanley airfield, they had a strategic purpose in showing the Argies that their mainland could be bombed from Ascension Island.

While the carriers are a big loss to the UK for projecting power, a Second Falklands War would be a completely different affair than the first. You'd see full-up RN submarine interdiction of Argie commerce, attacks on mainland Argentina with TLAMs and the much larger British Army garrison on the Falklands themselves put up a hell of a lot bigger fight.

My guess is that between sea-based commerce to them being halted AND having Buenos Aires' powergrid dropped the Argie leadership would quickly have MUCH bigger problems to deal with than trying to take/keep the Falklands.
