Police Stop ‘Occupy Boston’ From Moving In Winterized Tent

BOSTON (CBS) – Occupy Boston protesters brought a huge winterized tent to the edge of Dewey Square early Monday afternoon, but were blocked by police.

Occupiers were left standing outside their camp with the military-style, 500-pound tent, which was tightly wrapped up in plastic and wheeled in on a cart.

The peaceful standoff began at noon as expected.

City officials handed out fliers to the occupiers saying the tents violate fire safety and building codes. New building materials are prohibited and the protesters would need to apply for a permit.

The standoff ended about a half-hour later as the protesters retreated.

The tent was loaded onto a truck at about 12:45 p.m.

Police commissioner Ed Davis was at the scene with several officers.

There were no incidents.

“It’s only a temporary site. By bringing a tent of this magnitude, it makes it more of a permanent site. I just don’t think it’s what we’re going to allow on that piece of property in Dewey Square,” Mayor Tom Menino told WBZ NewsRadio 1030 Monday morning.

The fireproof tent has room for more than ten people and protesters say it meets all codes required by the city.

The group bought it with the help of donors.

One good thing is that the longer it goes on now, the less tolerant the cities will be in the spring.

as long as they don't get in it, I'll take it off their hands for 20 bucks

Just what exactly are they protesting in Boston? That Assachussets needs more Barney Franks and Ted Kennedys? Haven’t the originals done enough damage? “We want more drownings! We want more foreclosures!”

Agreed. Extend their stay, and turn the site into a daily example of change attributed to the liberal regime.

I'll bet they did. I wonder if they can get a refund. No, actually I take that back ;-)

It’s was worth the $1,300.00 though, even it they never got to uncrate it. These useless eaters got thousands of dollars of unwarranted publicity from the alphabet networks and the bird-cage-liner press over their stupid-a-facking tent, as Soprano’s mobster Furio Giunta would have said.

I for one find this completely hilarious. Supporters of OWS most likely vote liberal and in doing so, have voted for ever increasing regulations in our lives. Unfortunately, they seem to not enjoy when said regulations are used to prevent THEM from doing something. TOO F'N BAD!!!

If they really wanted to move them out they could start piping in music from the “Carpenters Greatist Hits” around the clock.

Kennedy strikes from the grave. They are on the Rose Kennedy Greenway. It's on site of the former elevated expressway ramp that America paid to bury, known as the Big Dig.

I just simply wonder at the hypocrisy.

Which eeeeevul corporation manufactured the:
“military-style, 500-pound tent”

As for donors...I’m thinking my tagline might provide a clue, but I’d really love to see the list of donors to these anarchists. Has anyone researched this?

The Carpenters Greatest Hits would be good but to really make them run my vote goes to Air Supply

But then that may be considered cruel and unusual.

Excellent point but to paraphrase Leona Helmsley, “Laws/
rules (in her case, taxes) are for the little people”.
People like us. For the Occupoinds, laws and rules must not apply!
