Pelosi plans to reveal information about Gingrich 'when the time is right' By Alicia M. Cohn - 12/05/11 11:44 AM ET

House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) is holding back some information on Republican Newt Gingrich that could detract from his presidential campaign, according to a report published Monday.

“One of these days we’ll have a conversation about Newt Gingrich,” Pelosi told Talking Points Memo. “When the time is right. … I know a lot about him. I served on the investigative committee that investigated him, four of us locked in a room in an undisclosed location for a year. A thousand pages of his stuff.”

Gingrich, who served as Speaker of the House, worked with Pelosi in Congress from 1987 to 1999. Pelosi also served on the ethics committee that investigated Gingrich for tax cheating and campaign finance violations in the late ’90s.

Gingrich filmed an ad with then-House Speaker Pelosi in 2008 to urge action on climate change, which haunted him early in his presidential bid this year. Gingrich called the ad “probably the dumbest single thing I’ve done in recent years” last month.

Republicans in Congress have been slow to rally around Gingrich’s rise to front-runner status in the polls, with former GOP colleague Sen. Tom Coburn (Okla.) stating publicly over the weekend he is not “inclined to be a supporter” of Gingrich due to that past experience.

But Democrats such as the soon-to-retire Rep. Barney Frank (D-Mass.) have suggested Gingrich as the GOP nominee would benefit the Democratic Party.

"He would be the best thing to happen to Democrats since Barry Goldwater," Frank said last week. Goldwater is credited with reviving Republican conservatism in the ’60s.

Pelosi told Talking Points Memo that Frank “spoke for a lot” of Democrats. “I like Barney Frank’s quote the best, where he said ‘I never thought I’d live such a good life that I would see Newt Gingrich be the nominee of the Republican party,’ ” she said.

And Rep. James Clyburn (D-S.C.), who also served in Congress with Gingrich and now holds a position of power as assistant minority leader in the House, charged Gingrich on Monday with lacking the temperament to be president.

“He tends to fly off the handle. He will say almost anything in order to get a charge. I’m sure that he’s not serious when he says a lot of these things,” Clyburn said on MSNBC.

Surely you stupid Freepers weren't so dumb as to think that I would keep ethics investigation material completely confidential as required by law ... because until the indictment (if any), followed by trial and finding of fact it is nothing more than rank here-say ... ... and such untrue malicious gossip can and often does cause permanent damage to an individual's reputation.

I'll get away with it too, my pretties, because we Libtards are always completely above the law.

If Frank says we’d love Newt as the candidate, we should interpret that as we don’t want Newt as a candidate...at least that’s the sense I’m feeling. Same with Nancy Pelosi trying to derail him by some “new” allegation. She wants the Republicans to be afraid to nominate him, obviously.

I was starting to think that they (Democrats and news media) DID want Newt to be the nominee because they have been largely silent about his past (ethics investigation, marriages, that stupid Tiffany's thing) - keeping that in their pocket until he becomes the nominee.

With this Pelosi/Frank thing, I guess you could look at it from your point of view - if those two are talking about this now, they DON'T want him as the nominee.

Of course, there's always the possibility that Pelosi just went off the reservation accidentally and revealed something she wasn't supposed to reveal.

My guess is that her "dirt" will just be a rehash of the ethics investigations - but my concern is that the left wing news media will treat it as all "new" or a "reveal" even though it is old. There may be one tiny piece in there that is new, but they will treat the whole thing as a "startling revelation" on orders from Democrat headquarters.

They are terrified of Newt.

They would keep their mouth shut or lament that he is their worst nightmare if he was in fact a gift to them as nominee.

He will say things out loud that they do not want to be heard.

He will say them when it can’t be silenced, at debates..etc.

He will call out Obama on scandals no one has been allowed to hear about on MSM and will call attention to the media itself.

He is Churchill and they are the Nazis and it’s the 30’s all over again.

“Perry,Bachmann or Santorum. What will we do after the Obama DNC Axie machine destroys them all?”

From the looks of things, a lot of people on our side are doing the job for them.

So she has “dirt” on Newt, but waits until an election to reveal it “when the time is right.” What an evil bitch!

Compared to Pelosi, Newt is a saint.

Her net worth increased 65% while speaker. Enough said.

Everything that came out of that investigation, believe me, has already been revealed. They’re hoping to give it “new life” by re-stating it. A pathetic but entirely predictable strategy, designed to create an impediment to the rise of Gingrich. But the real question is, why don’t Pelosi & Co.
just let other Republicans do their work for them?
I guess that’s what she means by “when the time is right”.
She’ll fire her imaginary big guns when Gingrich becomes THE candidate, and by that time Gingrich will have the votes of so many Independents and disenchanted Obamaites, that the “charges” won’t make the slightest ripple.

It would seem that they have already taken their shots at Perry when he was the front runner. I don’t think they have much more. Nor do I think that they have much more on Bachmann than what they already showed when she won the Iowa straw poll. Santorum’s problem is that he lost in such a key state after backing Spector. But any of the three would be a large improvement on the Zero fraud-in-chief now occupying the Oval Office knowing he he likely is not even eligible to do so.

This is just gonna lead to a “scorched earth” environment where both parties in Congress spend 100% of their time investigating each other’s leadership, just to have the dirt to fling at them when they someday aspire to higher office.

"So this is one of a million reason not to nominate Newt. He has stuff out there that we don't even know about yet. We need to nominate a conservative."

Yeah, he has stuff out that that never even happened....so I think we should all ask Nancy who we should vote for...

Let her say what she wants. Newt Gingrich was never found guilty of any ethics violations. Thats all that counts.

How stupid can you be? One thing about Newt, he has learned to take care of himself. If I were Pelosi I would be afraid of the counterattack which is sure to occur.
