Six GOP hopefuls joined a policy forum on Fox News Saturday night to push their conservative credentials, with Newt Gingrich seeking to reassure voters and vowing that he would reject "big government approaches" if elected president.
(snip)
Gingrich who has risen to the top of many GOP polls after a series of strong debate performances and stumbles by his rivals faced questions about his past support for government policies addressing climate change and in favor of a healthcare insurance mandate.
Gingrich pledged that conservative voters could "trust that a President Gingrich will not advance these sorts of big government approaches."
The former House speaker said his past support for a mandate had been consistent with what other conservatives had believed at the time. "Every conservative has in fact left that kind of a model," said Gingrich.
Gingrich also faced tough questioning from the panel on immigration policy and stood by his recent proposals to allow some families of undocumented workers to remain in the country.
Im suggesting that this only apply to people whove been here a very long time, who have a real tie to the local community, and were exploring the idea that theyd actually have a family sponsoring them, he said.

I agree, but it's just not working for them. They're all somehow just a little short when it comes time to step up and make it clear why they're the best one. Newt is better than Romney but far from perfect. He's OK mainly because, like baseball, it's a long game and you have to look at batting averages not just home runs. Romney doesn't even make the team and get to go the plate as far as I"m concerned. He's just a clone of Barry who claims to follow different false prophet and isn't part black.

Because the biggest threat we face is from within, not outside this country. The erosion of our Constitution is the ONLY thing that will bring us down, not a foreign threat, and for my money, Dr. Paul is the only one running with a thirty year track record of full support for the Constitution. NONE of the others can match that, even though most of the time he stood alone.
With respect to Israel, I pretty much agree with his stance: no foreign aid to ANY NATION, Israel included, and no strings to bind any action she feels needful for her own protection. That, I submit, is a FAR superior way to support a friend than trying to use U. S. taxpayers’ money to impose the will of the current mohammedan-in-chief.
Also, Dr. Paul is the only one of the crop who’s served in uniform. I think that may partially account for his popularity with service people. And, FYI, virtually ALL of the Marines I know or talk with, current, retired and prior service, support him. They’ll bring him up and try to convince ME to support him. So I figure if the tip of the spear likes Dr. Paul, we may yet have a chance to restore our Republic without bloodshed. Or, at least, without MUCH bloodshed.
Sorry, pal. If Iran is allowed to attack Israel it would spark WWIII. Ron Paul can go straight to hell as far as I’m concerned.
Paul and all his 911 truther buddies can go straight to hell.
If Israel is not compelled to act contrary to her own best interests by Obummer or any other U.S. president because of the hold of our “aid” to her, Iran’s threat could AND WOULD be dealt with in a decisive manner that would preclude any other such attempts. However, AS A DIRECT RESULT OF “foreign aid” provided by U.S. taxpayers at the point of fedgov’s gun, Israel can be, and IS, pressured to act (or not act) against her own interests. This perceived weakness is and always will be exploited by the mohammedans who want every trace of Judeo-Christian morals and ethics obliterated. It is particularly bad under our current illegitimate regime in the aptly named District of Criminals. And it will not perceptibly change until Israel (and every other country in the world) is weaned OFF of OUR tax dollars.
This is Ron Paul’s position and, given obummer’s open hatred of Israel, it makes more sense now than ever! Official government-to-government “aid” like this is the worst possible thing we could do to Israel. Person-to-person, PRIVATE GIVING would be the absolute BEST thing to be done. And should worse come to worst, I would, personally, offer my life and service to defend Israel, as would many others, I’m sure. Just get fedgov OUT OF THE WAY. Which is ALL Dr. Paul has been saying. He is not and has never been the anti-Semite his detractors want to paint him.
NOR is he a “9/11 truther,” any more than you or I are. His oft-misquoted remarks were reflective of and bolstered by OFFICIAL CIA reports that came out after 9/11. That part was glossed over or just plain ignored and he’s been falsely (and knowingly so by most of the slimeballs who hate and fear him) painted as something he clearly is NOT.
I understand and share your loathing for Mittens, but Dr. Paul is the polar opposite of every big government wet dream Mittens and Newtie and Obummer and, to a lesser but still troubling extent, Perry have.
Dr Paul can KMA!
Nice throw away line to smear Gov. Perry. Explain in detail.
Amen, onyx.
You ARE aware, are you not, of Perry’s stances on illegal aliens? That alone is a deal breaker for me, leaving alone anything else (and, according to many from Texas, there is much more).

I KNOW what it is. Seal the border. No amnesty.
When I was 20 I wanted a date with Cheryl Teigs.......
But I moved on because it was a fantasy.
WHERE did you hear that? What about his in-state tuition for illegals? That’s NOT amnesty?
