Newt Gingrich Town Hall in Staten Island (Photo Essay)
American Rattlesnake ^ | December 4, 2011 | Gerard Perry

The photograph above is, of course, one of former Speaker of the House and current Republican presidential candidate Newt Gingrich. He was in town to sign his new book, A Nation Like No Other, along with his wife, who has a book of her own. But the most important part of his visit was a town hall forum held in the Hilton Garden Inn in Bloomfield, Staten Island, which was sponsored by the Staten Island Tea Party.

There were a number of interesting aspects to this event, not the least of which was the decision to hold such an important campaign appearance in the backyard of former Staten Island borough president Guy Molinari, who’s not only an important Mitt Romney backer but also a personal foe of Gingrich dating back to their days as backbenchers in the House of Representatives.

This goes to the heart of his presidential campaign, and perhaps points to the essential duality of Newt Gingrich as a political personality. While critics would view this gambit, like his Eli Manningesque certainty of being the eventual Republican presidential nominee, as an example of Newt’s insuperable arrogance, supporters would cite it as merely another illustration of their candidate’s confidence in the resonance of his ideas among the public. It’s that quality that impelled him to challenge President Obama to a series of seven Lincoln-Douglas style debates, should he be the Republican nominee. Without question, it’s something that the media and potential primary voters and caucus-goers will focus on as the Gingrich campaign progresses.

When Cain did this the MSM accused him of being on a national book tour instead of running for president.

Newt is a member of the RINO establishment, and as such, is not a real conservative.

Anyone looking for change had better look away from Newt.

For me it looks like the race is narrowing down to two people, and I’ll die before I vote for this one:

Anyone looking for change had better look away from Newt.

It's down to Perry, Bachman, and Santorum as the only viable conservative candidates. I would lean Santorum at this point.

K-LO had a very good piece on Santorum in National Review Online last week.

Shall I assume you’re backing Romney?

Thanks for the link. Yes, that was a nice piece.

I’m from Pennsylvania and have voted for Santorum since he first ran for the Senate. I will never forget him taking out that communist Democrat pos Harris Wofford. Santorum lost to Bob Casey Jr. thanks only to a perfect storm of timing, relentless “mainstream” Democrat newsroom attacks, and Casey’s name recognition (his father was actually a decent, unabashedly pro-life governor).

There are some people here who cannot forgive Rick for supporting that scumbag Specter over Toomey in a primary some years ago. Rick extracted a promise from Specter in return for his support (had to do with judges) and now Toomey, that great alleged conservative, has come out (no pun) in favor of the sodomization of the US military through repeal of “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell”.

So you just never know...
Iowa should be interesting.

Nope. Never. He is a Mormon Socialist.

Now my money is on Rick Santorum and Michelle Bachmann.

If it is Obama vs. Romney, I will stay at home and not vote.

I cannot in good conscience vote for someone who thinks that killing babies is a woman’s right.
