Herman Cain, the insurgent populist whose candidacy has been ensnared by allegations of sexual impropriety, said Saturday that he is leaving the race for the Republican presidential nomination, saying that the allegations have cast a "cloud of doubt over me and this campaign."
"As of today, with a lot of prayer and soul searching, I am suspending my presidential campaign," he said at an event in Atlanta. "I am suspending my presidential campaign because of the continued distraction, the continued hurt . . . on me, on my family, not because we are not fighters, not because I am not a fighter."
Cain's campaign had sent mixed signals as to his future since Ginger White, an Atlanta woman who claims to have had an affair with Cain for more than a decade, went public with her story earlier this week. While Cain has said he has been "reassessing" his candidacy, he also, at times, has been fiercely defiant, suggesting that unnamed enemies have been trying to do him in and vowing to press forward.
"The pundits would like for me to shut up, drop out and go away," he said. "I am not going to be silenced, and I am not going away."

Huh? Nobody "got off" because they were black. All four were convicted and given life in prison or the death penalty. The Judge was then charged with corruption unrelated to the cases and re-trials were ordered. But, they'll be found guilty again.

The mainstream liberal media now seeing how they could make Palin quit now they have a perfect template to make any conservative quit. First they came for Sarah Palin, now Cain. So we’ll never get another conservative to even run for president as the nominee for a major party.

The democrats are international socialists . They want to destroy capitalism, the U.S.A. and freedom. Then they will come for your money , including your money ms Palin. So someone has to stop them and you know you could. So do it.
That means, of course, we must work to insure that (1) no one present candidate has enough votes to win on the first ballot; and (2) behind-the-scenes efforts must begin, and get as nasty as necessary, to insure the party Insiders and RINOs (are they presently one and the same?) do NOT get to pick a milquetoast candidate that has no chance against Obama (or worse, turns out to be worse than him).
This election will, at the very least, probably mark the end of the Republican party as we know it, if it doesn't mark the end of the Republic itself.
We need someone who will upset the applecart, as well as the stats quo, during both the campaign and the general election. This country is in dire straits. The “establishment” is very well entrenched at present, and it's possible that we are about to enter a period where the old answers (i.e., elections, and other old ways of doing things) that worked so well in the past no longer have currency in the present climate.
These are very parlous times, my FRiends, and we must be ready for anything - ANYTHING - that may be coming down the pike.
Stay ready, and keep your powder dry.

While understanding your sentiments to some extent, your comparison has little to do with this discussion and your is also factually wrong— none of the perps in the Knoxville case “got off”, all were convicted, and sentenced either to life no parole, 53 years,and one to death by injection.
What is true is that the poor families have to go through this all again because Judge Baumgartner is a drug addict and loonie and they have gotten a new trial. Not because the perps were black.
How unfortunate.
I hope the folks that ran the smear campaign against him remember they will have to answer to God for what they have done.
Do you always listen to liberals? While I like Herman Cain a lot and know he had a great chance to beat Obama there's NO WAY... I repeat NO WAY Barack Hussein Obama could ever successfully go up against Newt in a debate. He'd lose a debate with Newt even if the unemployment rate was at 6%.
If the nominee is Mitt... well then your liberal friend may have a point. I'm sure your liberal friend is secretly hoping that Mitt Romney wins the nomination. Like McCain, many will hold their nose and vote for him or stay home and not even bother.
Isn't it interesting how the white liberal left have such hatred for any conservative, but especially for a true black conservative who will not be “kept in his place”, like apparatchik machine black democrats. Cain called them to the carpet and scared the hell out of them, with is true words and his life of success.
If there is any truth to this, and Cain has handled it improperly (personally and in public),then that is an error which is forgiven. Why? Because the standard of behaviour in the democrat party is one of absolutely horrific treatment of women, minorities and of the American family—supported by a demonic media, all in the worship of the amoral statist totalitarian one party goals they have sought throughout their existence. Their back is against the wall— we need to finish them totally, if for no other reason than the appalling pursuit of this good man.
Here's hoping he will continue to lambaste obama for the fraud that he is and the lying devious bastards that all democrats are. If these dilettantes think they have silenced him, they are wrong. Let us all send letters of support to Herman.
