Republican Newt Gingrich credited his wife and blind persistence for pulling his campaign back from the brink of disaster in the 2012 race. But an expert suggests circumstance really controls his newfound fame.
Gingrich praised his third wife Callista, whom he said pieced his campaign back together after key staffers quit and media allegations crashed it, and his own persistence for his new lead in Politicos eBook The Right Fights Back, released Wednesday.
Callista, he said, dug into the campaign, becoming a very good surrogate. Gingrich said he too dug deeper into the GOP presidential nominee race, refusing to acknowledge that the campaign was failing.
I was the only guy in the room who didnt know I was dead, he said in the book.
News polls show Gingrich surging ahead of October front-runner Herman Cain and experienced contender Mitt Romney. The former speaker leads Romney by as much as 4 percent in CNN/ Opinion Research and Quinnipiac polls a far cry from his standing in July when he barely garnered 5 percent of support in the polls.

N.C. State University Political Science Professor Andrew Taylor argues that all Gingrich may have really done was successfully benefited from the political mishaps of others.
I think a great deal of what has helped was sort of the rise and falls and sort of failings of some his competitors, he told The Christian Post.

Gingrich said he ignored advisers who suggested his younger third wife, whom he met during an extramarital affair, should not be so close to the campaign. Now he said she has become as integral to him as Nancy Reagan was to Ronald Reagan.

Seems Callista wrote a rather nice children’s book about the greatness of America.
I really commend her for this. Ever gone into most big box bookstores and tried to find American history books for younger children? It’s IMPOSSIBLE.
Seriously — contrast this with Mrs. I Have Never Been Proud of my Country, and I think we would be a lot better off w/ a Callista type as FLOTUS.
She is 23 years younger than Newt, so I guess we could look at Newt as a child predator who used his power, his good looks (cough cough) and his smooth talking ways to unfairly seduce her.
Guess you would be fine with a single girlfriend having an affair with your husband. It would be all his fault!
Let’s put her on a pedestal. She helped Newt out of a failing marriage. Pin a medal on her. A very expensive one, from Tiffany’s.
Given the choice between a moral man who wants to expand government and raise taxes, and a philanderer who wants smaller government and lower taxes, give me the philanderer every time.
Jimmy Carter AFAIK is faithful to Rosalyn, he still sucked as President.
I am not ignoring what Newt or Callista did. However, it is not MY job to JUDGE what they did.
That’s the job of the Big Guy upstairs.
I have Faith that He will take care of folks in the manner that they deserve.
If you’re calling Romney moral, then perhaps you don’t know about his support for abortion. Killing babies is not moral.
We’re in a Twilight Zone episode. We’ve adopted the Dem code of morality, and heaven only knows what’s weird in the Dem camp tonight. Maybe the episode will end soon, and conservatives will stop attacking other conservatives for supporting traditional values.
One can hope.
Newt told her when he divorced her that the marriage wasn't living up to his expectations. According to wife #2 Newt felt she dressed dowdy, was overweight and didn't fit into the Beltway crowd.
I guess it was only a failing marriage in Newt's opinion. If Newt can't fulfill his marriage vows "until death do us part" "for better or worse" how can we count on him as POTUS? What a hypocrite!
Nothing wrong with a little freakery.
“Guess you would be fine with a single girlfriend having an affair with your husband. It would be all his fault!”
Yes, it would be his fault.
The point is, one never knows the condition of a marriage and second guessing this or that is none of our business.
Ronald Reagan had a divorce and I don’t know why and didn’t care then and don’t now - it was their business, not mine.
This country is dying. We must get rid of Obama and I think Newt is the only one who can do that.
I gave more money to Newt today. I hope those on this board that support him will do the same.
Save our country. Defeat Obama.
No wonder when she wanted her Mediterranean cruise she got it. That is not a woman you say no to.
Axelrod didn’t make payments over 13 years to White w/o telling Mrs. Cain.
Ah, I see where you’re coming from now. My Bible just says ‘God hates divorce’. Yours must say He hates divorce ‘unless the condition of the marriage is not all that great’.
Or words to that effect.
Stop it. You’re scaring me. [Not w the jewelry—w the woman.]
Are you saying that's our choice?
