Gingrich Credits Wife for Sudden Rise; Pundit Cites Circumstance
Christian Post ^ | Dec. 1, 2011 | Stephanie Samuel

Republican Newt Gingrich credited his wife and blind persistence for pulling his campaign back from the brink of disaster in the 2012 race. But an expert suggests circumstance really controls his newfound fame.

Gingrich praised his third wife Callista, whom he said pieced his campaign back together after key staffers quit and media allegations crashed it, and his own persistence for his new lead in Politico’s eBook The Right Fights Back, released Wednesday.

Callista, he said, dug into the campaign, becoming “a very good surrogate.” Gingrich said he too dug deeper into the GOP presidential nominee race, refusing to acknowledge that the campaign was failing.

“I was the only guy in the room who didn’t know I was dead,” he said in the book.

News polls show Gingrich surging ahead of October front-runner Herman Cain and experienced contender Mitt Romney. The former speaker leads Romney by as much as 4 percent in CNN/ Opinion Research and Quinnipiac polls – a far cry from his standing in July when he barely garnered 5 percent of support in the polls.

N.C. State University Political Science Professor Andrew Taylor argues that all Gingrich may have really done was successfully benefited from the political mishaps of others.

“I think a great deal of what has helped was sort of the rise and falls and sort of failings of some his competitors,” he told The Christian Post.

[snip]

Gingrich said he ignored advisers who suggested his younger third wife, whom he met during an extramarital affair, should not be so close to the campaign. Now he said she has become as integral to him as Nancy Reagan was to Ronald Reagan.

Cain’s giving money to this woman, without his wife’s knowledge, is indefensible. I hope his marriage can survive.

With all these skeletons in his closet, he should have known better, than to run.

Long time listener, and longtime admirer, of Herman Cain. Needless to say, I am very disappointed with this latest bimbo revelation. He should have known better. Perhaps he did, but he chose to ignore his better judgment. Whatever his excuse, he should have told his wife he was providing financial support to another woman, who is unrelated to the family. That’s just wrong. He lost my confidence, and he lost my vote.

Any of them related to his current wife?

Fidelity is important in relationships. Divorces occur over infidelity. You know this, right?

How can anyone trust ole Neuter to be faithful to conservatism? He is already talking about amnesty for illegals. “Compassionate Conservatism?” I think we have had enough of this from the Bush’s.

Correct me if I am wrong, but ole Neutered has a daughter who is lesbian? What went wrong there? What did daddy not pass on to the daughter?

Yea, I know. The trait is allegedly genetic. You know, born with it. So is ole Neuter gay?

Good analysis; it was interesting to read. I hope the primary season has some big surprises in store. I don’t want Romney OR Newt.

"...his younger third wife, whom he met during an extramarital affair..."

Wait....he met his current wife while he was cheating on a former wife with another woman? Did I read that right?

Yow....dude.

President Perry has a much better ring than President Gingerich.

They've only been married for 11 years, so I think it is safe to assume that the grandchildren are from previous marriages. Regardless, Newt's personal life is probably less important to Americans than Obama's destruction of the economy, caused by his failed far-left policies.

If it came down to a choice of Newt or Perry, that is no choice at all. Perry hands down.

Seems Callista wrote a rather nice children’s book about the greatness of America.

I really commend her for this. Ever gone into most big box bookstores and tried to find American history books for younger children? It’s IMPOSSIBLE.

Well, that's certainly a positive stat. Good on Mrs. Gingrich. We home school, and I need a book like that for the kids.

That sure beats "For the first time in my life, I'm proud of my country", Moochelle O.

Newt is a brilliant man who makes some incredibly stupid decisions.

And that's my exact problem with him.

“Great. Just what America needs. The First Slut.”

You and folks like you help to explain why some fair minded people have tossed Cain aside.

Your over the top comments are despicable.

I look forward to Spermin’ Herman’s Jimmy Swaggart moment...it should be quite entertaining.

Cain may do the stupid thing tomorrow and stay in the race, but at some point, we will all get to laugh at you and scum like you when your cult leader finally leaves prime time.
