Marcus Luttrell, a highly decorated Navy Seal and author of Lone Survivor, is still hurting three years after the murder of his beloved Yellow Labrador, DASY, by a group of thugs in Texas.
Today, Luttrell has received some measure of closure, as two of the perpetrators who shot and killed his beloved companion have been sentenced to prison time.
Luttrell, a true American hero who was the lone survivor from his fire team after an insurgent attack in Afghanistan, took the stand Thursday in the cruelty to non-livestock animals trial of Alfonso Hernandez, one of the two accused in the case.
Hernandez was found guilty of a state felony by a Walker County jury.
Another suspect, Michael Edmonds, pleaded guilty to the same state charge two days prior and admitted he was the one who fired the shot that killed DASY.
The night of the killing in April of 2009, Luttrell said he heard a single gunshot, grabbed his pistol and ran next door to his mothers residence to check on her. He then made his way down to the roadway, crawled underneath a fence and saw DASY had been shot.
I saw my dog in a ditch and two men standing outside the car, Luttrell said, with his new service dog by his side on the stand. I could hear them laughing.

If that’s the mare who carried ordnance for our boys, there was a wonderful thread about her earlier this year here on FR, and also some discussion of Polish soldiers who trained a young bear (!) to do the same.
“If you dont like dogs, then go to a forum of dog-haters.” Concur. Somehow, I’m not edified when such a superior intellect stoops to correct our misapprehensions with his superior knowledge base. However, psychopathology is so riveting a discipline that his behavior veritably demands scrutiny. (Affect similar to Asberger’s, dontcha think?)
So which NFL team will sign them when they get out of jail?
If thats the mare who carried ordnance for our boys,

Yes, that is the one.
She not only carried ordnance up the hill, she brought wounded etc back down the hill...
She was wounded twice...the Gen who ordered her to Camp Pendleton and a life of fresh oats and hay said she was to carry no more than her blankets for the rest of her life.
I wouldn’t be surprised if she didn’t get PH....’they’ made her SSGT.
Will try to google Polish soldier post...sounds interesting also.
Well said!!
i’m thinking of throwing some of my chihuahua’s land mines at these pictures but won’t because this is a new monitor and don’t want to ruin it.
Me too!
You’re picking the wrong thread to make your semantic and nit-picky point. Whether it is technically “murder” or not is not important in the larger context of Marcus’ story. Which... If you haven’t read I certainly recommend.
Thanks. Now that is a good tale.
I am really ‘ashamed’ of myself by being surprised that Polish troops were in Iran in WWII.
I would hope that I was aware of that but just let it ‘slip my mind’.
Give it a break.
To Lutrell it was “murder”.
thank you.
My thoughts..you put it better.
just go away.
If you hurt or shoot a police dog it is waaay more than hurting “property”.
>>Anyone who would shoot a Labrador, Golden, or other retriever cannot be trusted around human beings.
It has been known for quite some time that cruelty to animals is often a precursor to violent crimes against humans up to and including murder.
There is plenty of reason involved in desiring harsh penalties for animal cruelty due to the frequency that perps go on to commit violent crimes against humans. These guys are young, based on their pictures. Now is the time to teach them a serious lesson, and provide an example to others who might travel this road.
On my post #62, my intent was to agree with your post #51. I personally wish that people like seowulf would take a walk in traffic.
first I’ve heard of this...but it strikes me that these guys are lucky to have survived the night they killed dasy.
