Or that the only way to be safe is to leave your Christianity at the door.

Not at all... there's a manner in which it's done properly. If Cain had contact with Ginger White, his wife should've been read in on it. Part of being a Christian also means remaining above reproach, i.e., avoid even the appearance of compromise.

Ideally, yes. But my husband and I sometimes have trouble even having the time to communicate who is picking up the kids from this or that school event, much less who all he’s talked to or helped. Sometimes the pace of life gets in the way.

As much as possible we avoid the appearance of compromise, but Jesus Himself was accused and hanged on a cross. If somebody is willing they can make a scandal out of anything. And that’s why this deal with Cain is so critical. People are saying that it doesn’t matter whether he’s guilty or not - all that matters is whether somebody can accuse him and create the perception that he’s guilty, or inept at handling accusations, or whatever.

Anybody who says that has never been at the mercy of slit-throats. They may think they are so above the fray, but that’s only because nobody considered them dangerous enough to target yet.

A prostitute is lying on the ground battered and bleeding from her last “customer”. Nobody else is around. A Christian man sees her there. What does he do? To be above reproach he would have to be like the Levite or priest who walked on the other side of the man on the road to Jericho. The one man who would NOT be “above reproach” (if that person who was bloody in the street was a woman)is “the good Samaritan”.

Imagine if that guy on the road to Jericho left for dead was a woman. That Samaritan who picked her up, touched her wounds, left his personal belongings with her, paid her hotel bill for a month.... could easily be accused of things tat could get him executed in some parts of the world. Or get HER executed in some parts of the world.

We tend to think of the priest and Levites as being cold-hearted but maybe they were just trying to be above reproach. Maybe they just cared more about their reputation and political future than they cared for the man whose crisis didn’t happen on schedule when there were lots of witnesses on hand to vouch for his correctness.

See what I mean? OB/GYN’s have nurses who come into the examining room to be a witness, but I know of very few pastors, teachers, or other people in the “helping” professions who have that luxury. The practicalities don’t allow for that, and as a result those people are vulnerable to unfounded claims.
