Author, lawyer and former game show host Ben Stein says politics are getting a little too personal, and believes candidates should not be judged by their "gossipy love life."
Appearing on CBS' "The Early Show," Stein said the coverage of GOP president contender Herman Cain and allegations of extramarital affairs was getting to be too much.

I’d love to have a choice between a guy who screwed a few chicks and a guy who is screwing the whole country.
For many years I’ve wondered how I would confront the prospect of having to vote for a candidate who holds ostensibly solid conservative political views, but happens to have a sleazeball private life. And, that this would be the only option against a lunatic lib candidate. Luckily I’ve never had that situation arise to date.
Harkening back to how much it just repelled me to my very core when Clinton was sullying the Oval Office, I frankly just don’t think I could vote for someone with such a seedy background. I could overlook McCain’s wrecked first-marriage (who knows what really happened anyway), because after seven years of POW hell, the psychological ramifications of returning home and experiencing freedom again would probably make anyone wig out. So, I can certainly understand a few extenuating circumstances. But when it comes to Newt, for example... well, that’s a lunch I just can’t keep down. I can’t see myself lowing my whole sense of standards, morality, and decency to vote for someone I regard as so sleazy and without character. And I don’t really have any genuine hatred for the guy. I’ve certainly enjoyed him in the debates, if anything.
As for Cain, the jury’s still out. I’m still giving him a little benefit of doubt until we get a better picture of the situation. Especially since I know how we’ve now entered a realm in which Soros operatives can toss around a million bucks to buy an accuser to character-assassinate any conservative they wish.

Newt has been very upfront about his personal mistakes. When he converted to Catholicism, if he made a good confession all of that was forgiven according to his faith. If we hear about any further transgressions - then that’s an issue.
Ah, but with Newt, there are many other things that confession won’t resolve, such as supporting global warming nonsense with Nancy Pelosi and several other decidedly liberal stances. Nevertheless, his private life was, maybe is, a mess. But it’s his liberal leanings that leave me cold.
Gordon Liddy answered this question 35-odd years ago. When a train’s in trouble and the engineer’s dead, the crew and the passengers don’t need a civil or chemical or nuclear engineer, a lawyer, a doctor, a carpenter, or a good person or a nice guy; they need a railroad engineer, someone who knows how to right the train. It’s only after they’ve found a few railroad engineers that they’d have the luxury of weighing the candidates’ other assets and liabilities.
Despite his resume, Cain doesn’t appear to be that engineer. And without that qualification, the liabilities—whether true or not—don’t matter.
Oh, I’ve heard that argument before, and it certainly has some merit. But I still separate the role of “leader” as something beyond what an expert craftsman, engineer or some such does. There’s a moral component to leadership, which I can’t discount.
He needs to be honest yet discreet.
I agree but being divorced from a cheating husband, that little fact can blow a marriage apart I don’t care where you come from or who you are. It takes a lot of trust and work to get it back on course - most times it doesn’t. Sadly, he made poor choices and must now decide on coming clean for his election or covering to save his marriage. Either decision has consequences.

Well, we aren’t looking at Cain as a deceived spouse, but against the other candidates we could vote for. They are all cheaters.
What gets me is how he thought, if these allegations are true, that this would not come out.
I hope he does not drop out but come back more honest and strong as ever... I actually DO hope for change. If we get stuck with obama again, he is a known cheater with MEN and a CRACK PIPE. I’ll take herman’s infidelities.
