Gingrich Backed Freddie in 2007 Interview
Wall Street Journal ^ | December 1, 2011 | NICK TIMIRAOS And PATRICK O'CONNOR

Posted on 12/01/2011 4:31:55 PM PST by Captain Kirk

Pressed in the interview about how that was not "a point of view one normally associates with conservatives," Mr. Gingrich replied that there are times "when you need government to help spur private enterprise and economic development." He cited electricity and telephone network expansion as similarly effective private-public purposes. "It's not a point of view libertarians would embrace, but I am more in the Alexander Hamilton-Teddy Roosevelt tradition of conservatism," he said. He added, "I'm convinced that if NASA were a GSE, we probably would be on Mars today."

There is not ONE single issue Newt can be trusted on.

For all his many, many (and fatal) faults, Romney at least pays lip service to free markets. Gingrich can’t even do that consistently.

Ideologically, I think Romney and Newt are one and the same. Newt is more arrogant which means he will be more “liberal” in every sense of the word.Does not matter because a Newt nomination assures 4 more years.

Newt history over and over, he is no conservative but a near lefty, but some fools have their blinders on. Mark Levin just pointed out in a news story of a person saying how bad Cain was and that he was finished. He said, it would be nice if the media would point out that the individual that made the quoted statement works for newt. So much for the BS that newt was not attacking anyone.

Newt was feeding at the Fannie and Freddie trough soon after he left Congress -- at least $1.6 million worth.
Excerpt:

Gingrich’s first contract with the mortgage company was in 1999, five months after he resigned from Congress and as House speaker, according to a Freddie Mac press release.

His primary contact inside the organization was Mitchell Delk, Freddie Mac’s chief lobbyist, and he was paid a self- renewing, monthly retainer of $25,000 to $30,000 between May 1999 until 2002, according to three people familiar with aspects of the business agreement.

During that period, Gingrich consulted with Freddie Mac executives on a program to expand home ownership, an idea Delk said he pitched to President George W. Bush’s White House.

He was so slimy that he didn't even register as a lobbyist. He knew (and still knows) the Washington lobbying ropes well. He was able to get around all the lobbying restrictions by framing himself as a "consultant."

The "consultant" garbage is classic Newt.

Please don't be fooled by him.

Newt is a snake-oil salesman, the ultimate insider and totally corrupt.

Newt stands for everything the Tea Party is fighting against.

We must fight against him.

Maybe Newt forgets that what goes around, comes around. Please pass the popcorn.

Gingrich was not a representative of the people at the time. He was privately employed and certainly had no free access to Fannie and Freddie. All he knew at the time was what he was told and I’m pretty sure they didn’t tell him what was REALLY going on. The real villains were the ones who knew what was going on and hid it. (Barney Frank et al)

Yes and newt helped barney by telling people everything was going well. He even said a few days back that he supported more CRA.

"I'm convinced that if NASA were a GSE, we probably would be on Mars today."

What is my small brain missing here. . .What part of NASA; was NOT, Government sponsored? Or am I confusing three letters here (GSE). . .

Perhaps, Newt said if NASA were NOT; a Government sponsored enterprise. . .

I am lost in in this translation; but it IS important. . .and know he want 'private enterprise' to make to help make this a 'go'.

All the more important; given our now. . .bagged/compromised position in space.

In that case, most of the Congress is more guilty. Not to mention the Senate. Bush could have pressed harder. What about Cheney? I bet he knew more than Newt. Are we going to blame them next?

And when there isn’t stuff coming out of Newt’s mouth, there is quite a bit going in... apparently.

Maybe you should read upon the topic and learn something of it, I suggest starting with jorges hud speech where he announced more loan funds were available. Actually jorge had 8 years to bring Franklin Raines to justice, he did nothing, and raines was not fined until after jorge left office he made a deal with the justice department.

That’s my point exactly. Newt was about as guilty for representing Fanny and Freddie as Jay Carney is for representing Obama. There are Many, Many others who are are the true villains here.

Ha, ha, but I thought Newt was the most intelligent guy on the planet. That’s what they keep telling us. How could he not know what was really going on? Newt is a liar and a narcissist every bit as bad as Obama. He will say anything to get elected, and then he plans on enjoying the lavish life that comes from being president.

I never said he was “the most intelligent guy on the planet”, but he wasn’t even part of the government. He was a private citizen. How can he be blamed for the mistakes of a government agency. This is insane. While I’m sure there is PLENTY we can pin on him, this is not one of those things. That’s all I’m saying.
