Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich has surged to the largest national lead held by any candidate so far in the race for the Republican Presidential Nomination.
A new Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey of Likely Republican Primary Voters finds Gingrich on top with 38% of the vote. Former Massachusetts Governor Mitt Romney is a distant second at 17%. No other candidate reaches double-digits.
The national survey of 1,000 Likely Republican Primary Voters was conducted on November 30, 2011 by Rasmussen Reports. The margin of sampling error is +/- 3 percentage points with a 95% level of confidence.

Now close to 40%......the “Independent” factor starting to kick in. No more Amateurs! We need an old pro at the helm and it shows.
This is actually a big positive in my mind. The way the liberal media usually does it, they back a candidate in the primary, and once he is nominated, they dump all the dirt on him in the general. This is part of the scheme to ensure GOP defeat. But with Newt, the dirt is already well-established. No October surprises.
Newt is the most hated politician in America, even more so than Bush. That he pulls so much pass Zero and Mitt tells a lot.
How about his cheating on wife #1 and wife #2?
Are we supposed to ignore that as the “family values” party?
The “Newt Gingrich for President” ping list!
If you want ON or OFF of the ping list, just let me know!
Rasmussen has Newt smoking Mitt!!!!!
There is a long and heavy dearth of honest dialogue in this nation, and Newt is the one who is and will bring that dialogue to the national stage as the GOP nominee.
People want someone to candidly explain what the illness is, what the medicine is, and how healthy we will be if we take the medicine!
That is why Newt is doing well.
To the national electorate Newt is perceived as intelligent, conservative (meaning “not radical like dingbat Obama”), and a capable and proven leader who delivers tough news and tough medicine when it is needed.
These three previous accomplishments of Newt will be a HUGE plus with national voters because it is clear to all that such no-nonsense ideas are what we desperately need today:
Contract With America
Welfare Reform
Government Shutdown.
They`d all have to struggle mightily. Beating Obillion$ will be a gargantuan task. At least Newt can take him down in debates. That`s a whole lot more than the awed, feckless McCain could accomplish in 2008.
I have an ex-wife myself. His ex-wife wouldn’t get much pity from me.
For too long we have been stuck with the next 'lady-in-waiting' by the GOP elites.
GHWB - disaster of a term loses to Clinton. Dole was promised the next nomination. We lost, again.
Bush and McCain vie for 'after Clinton'. Bush 'wins' as McClain steps aside to wait his turn.
McClain runs against Obama. Mitt steps aside to become the next 'lady-in-waiting'. Mac loses. BIG.
This continuing disaster of candidates has to end with someone WE can get behind, not the next also-ran.
Not endorsing the Messiah in the debates would be a good start. Do you remember "You don't have to fear Obama as President"? It couldn't be clearer to me that it was McCain's final finger in the eye to conservatives.
That will be up to him.
Obama will be an easy beat if someone actually runs against him, which has never happened in his career.
Newt will have to win against the media and excite people.
The same will go for any MSM creep who tries to mislead or lie about him. Newt will shred them like linguine in the coming months. And if anyone knows how to go about it, it is this crafty old MSM veteran who knows their game far better than they do.
Well said!
We need more of this kind of positive thinking around here for a change.
Thanks again FRiend!
We haven’t nominated an actual conservative since Reagan. Gingrich would be certainly more conservative than any President since Reagan, though not as conservative as Ronaldus Magnus himself. George W. Bush, like his father, had a vendetta against the conservative wing of the party, while cynically casting himself as a conservative to win our support. I think Newt is a move in the right direction for us, because it might help get the Bush’s fingers off the GOP establishment.
And I'll stop off on the way home, pick up a bottle of Jamesons...go home, puke, take a shower, drink the whiskey and hope for the best.
In the general it will be easy to vote for Newt over Obama.
Amazing numbers.
President Newt Gingrich.... it’s going to happen.
I’m thinking that today, Rove has flu like symptoms. I hope he’s out of TP.
You are so correct about that.
It was the Bush faction that went after Newt when he was Speaker Of The House. Newt became frustrated with the spineless jerks like rent Lott, who undermined his Contract With America and the impeachment of Slick Willie in the Senate.
Shortly after that, they (The GOP) threw Newt under the bus.
Newt is not at all an establishment RINO. He never was.
Allegations of affairs, bad and campaign is over. Proven affairs, a-ok. /s
Think about it:
Even a 5th grader knows that spending more then we have is the only problem with our federal budget; and we all know what the solution is: stop spending.
And who is the one person to put his foot down despite Democrat nonsense to force the issue: Newt with the government shutdown (that the media has painted as exclusively his baby).
The government shutdown becomes a HUGE asset in the general election because Newt can force the gigantic spending excesses to be a huge part of the debate with Obama, and his track record of being willing to go the mat on spending is a mega-bonus in these days of Carter-esque malaise.
