WASHINGTON (MarketWatch) The number of Americans who applied for jobless benefits last week rose above 400,000 again, an indication that the pace of hiring in the U.S. likely remains modest at best.
Initial claims for unemployment compensation climbed by 6,000 to a seasonally adjusted 402,000, the Labor Department said Thursday. It was the highest level in a month.
Applications from two weeks ago were revised up to 396,000 from an original reading of 393,000. Economists surveyed by MarketWatch had expected new requests for jobless benefits to total 393,000 in the week ended Nov. 26, which included the Thanksgiving holiday.

Last weeks were revised UP, as well, as has been the case 91% of the time since Obama took office.
How did you know today’s numbers were going to be BAD? All of YESTERDAY’s media hype to the sheeple about the “improving” economy.
Anybody who has been paying attention since 2009 already knows how this works.
What will this horrible number be revised UP to, next week? 410? 412?
gawddam lazy americans. and the corporations are just out to make president messiah look bad. and PASS THIS BILL!!! and besides, it’s all george bush’s fault.
ANY, any manifestation of the CHRONIC euro GOVERNMENTS’ here, will slam right into already margin-price pressures on small businesses. UnempPIIGSment of the U.S.
Sorry to hear about your impending job loss, especially during the holiday season. Same thing happened to me last November...the hospital where I worked for 7 years shut down the entire medical transcription department and sent our jobs to India. Most of us were women in our 50s to 60s, close to retirement age.
Transcription is on its last legs as a career in the US so most of us are still looking for jobs in different fields. Uncle Sam has a retraining program for people whose jobs have been sent overseas, so many of us are going to be doing that. I don’t know if you’d qualify for such a program but there are things like that available.
Good luck in your future endeavors!

Meanwhile, the Wall streeters who, more than any other single group got us into this mess, are figuring out how they are going to spend their multimillion dollar Christmas bonuses.
Were you being sarcastic?
“Wow... your comment very much sounded like the pathetic OWS anarchists living in tents around our country.
Were you being sarcastic?”
I haven’t spent much time listening to what the Wall Street protesters are saying, but if they are upset at the big banks for being at the forefront of the creation of this financial crisis, then I have to agree with them about that. Do you think the Wall Street firms bear no responsibility? Do you think it is all George Bush’s fault?
You said...

BHO’s 2012 campaign
More ‘hopey and changey’ please. /s =.=
Just goes to prove the 8.6% unemployment rate is a fraud.
Where the heck did you get I blame Bush?
It doesn’t even make sense how you jumped from bitching about wall street and their evil ways to I must blame Bush.
Your hinkey progression of thought makes no sense.
Those tent OWS nuts started out blaming wall street. They believe they are the reason they have no money and no jobs.
In fact, in a round about way.....that is just what you said.
I just gave you a chance to remake your point so you didn’t sound like the spoiled nuts who have overtaken parts of our country.
But hey. If you agree with them, well.....whatever floats your boat. I’m sure they have room for one more.
